Obituary for BURNAM

BURNAM, EDWARD &Quot;BUZZ&Quot; Age 98, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and two wives. He is survived by his daughter, Kay (Ray) Myer; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Born in Elk City, OK into a musical family, he grew up singing and playing bass and guitar. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950 to work with Dick Bills western band. He later formed his own band and worked in local night clubs, the Chesterfield Club and the Hitching Post. He also managed the Paradise Club in Tijeras Canyon in mid 60's. He had a magnetic personality and always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He enjoyed cookies and candy and playing dominos. A celebration of Buzz's life will be held March 23, 2013, 1:00pm at the home of his daughter. Call 323-2965 for further details.

BRAYTON, PETER RUSSELL, PH. D Age 62, a resident of Santa Fe, passed away February 27, 2013. He was born in Glen Falls, NY to Beverly Gilman Brayton and Russell Brayton who precede him in death. He is survived by his cousins: John F. Kelliher, Cathy Brayton Stone, Christina Gilman Litwa and Jack W. Brayton. Peter was president of Gay Men's Chorus of Washington DC in 1988-89. He received a B.S. from Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1972, and he received a Ph.D in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was the Administrator of the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service of US Department of Agriculture from 1984-2008. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

She is survived by her husband, David Benavidez; two children Anthony Benavidez and Danielle Benavidez as well as one step-son, Dave Benavidez Jr; 3 grandchildren, Denae, Izak, and Nikko Benavidez; her mother, Donna Smith of Las Vegas, NV; brother Edward Richards from Las Vegas, NV; three nephews Ed, Kelly, and Brian. BAXMAN, HORACE R. Horace (Hod) R. Baxman passed away February 5, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was 92. Hod attended Indiana University Extension where he earned a BS in chemistry, then on to Cornell University where he earned his PhD in Chemistry. He married Claire, his sweetheart of over 4 years in 1944, and in 1952 they moved to Los Alamos where he went to work for the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories. He worked there for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. In 1986 they moved to Rio Rancho where they enjoyed many years of retirement. Hod was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Claire Baxman, and his youngest daughter Sharon. He is survived by his three children: Amanda Baxman-Cox; Judith Giarratana and her husband Duane; Hod (Skip) Baxman and his wife Marla; grandson, Shawn Baxman. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, 1004 24th St SE, Rio Rancho, NM. BARTHOLDI, JOHN H. &Quot;JACK&Quot; Age 91, was born in Duluth, Minnesota and passed away on February 22, 2013 after a valiant struggle with a long illness. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved son, Lane Bartholdi. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma. Jack served proudly with the US Army Airborne, in the European Theater from 1942-1945, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the War and his university graduation, Jack and Norma moved to Albuquerque in 1950. He was a teacher at MacArthur Elementary, and Albuquerque High School for many years, before he went on to become one of the first computer technology instructors at TVI (now CNM). Jack had an encyclopedic knowledge of main frame systems, wrote, and provided instruction for generations of students beginning in the 1970's and moving into the digital age. During his hiatuses, Jack served as a consultant to the "labs" as well as to many community organizations. Jack served in every leadership position within the Albuquerque Area of Educational Retirees group, and enjoyed his time with the Albuquerque Moon Watch Team. Jack was an Elder and a Deacon at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Jack and Norma loved to travel, and were able to visit nearly all of Western Europe, with a foray into Russia, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Jack was universally acknowledged to be a kind and gentle man, who cherished his wife. He had a wry sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 3:00pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name maybe made to St. Andrew Building Fund.

VASQUEZ, BENNIE N. age 89, passed away on February 28, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie A. Vasquez, both from Chacon, NM and long-time residents of Bernalillo, NM. He leaves behind three children, Margaret Nelson and her children, Eric Nelson and Leslie Smith; Bennie P. Vasquez and wife Mary along with their children, Daniel and Veronica Vasquez; and LeRoy D. Vasquez and wife Sylvia along with children Helen, Paige and LeRoy II. He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and eight siblings. Bennie served proudly with the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was presented with a commemorative badge to honor those who fought in the Battle of Normandy from Congresswoman Heather Wilson. He is a retired member of the teamsters union and a long-time member of the American Legion Post #69. Bennie and Marie are longtime members of Second Presbyterian Church. Services are as follows: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at French - University. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. NEAL, EILEEN a resident of Albuquerque for 55 years, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 24, 2013. She was 89. She worked at Valley High School for 27 years. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda, and son, Brent. Also surviving her are three grandchildren: Jennifer and spouse Chisom Wilson; Brian; and Melissa Schroeder. Also there are three great-grandsons: Bryce and Austen Wilson, and Christian Schroeder. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. We wish to thank the angels at Sol Amor Hospice for taking such good care of our Mother/Grandmother. Joshua was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, Class of 2005; he loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Joshua was a successful manufacturing engineer in the aviation industry. Ambrosio was a BIG time supporter of the Albuquerque High Bulldog, and loved spending time at his ranch in Martinez Town, NM. He was a very giving person, always willing to help others. Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Klausen. Jane was a past president of Assistance League of Albuquerque and a member of PEO, Chapter AW. Jane studied classical piano for 12 years and won many musical awards. She was known for her marvelous sense of humor and love of animals.
