REX, GORDON ELMER passed away on January 31, 2014 at his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico. He was born on March 30, 1934 in Orefield, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Henry and Grace Alice Rex, as well as eight brothers, David, Kermit, John, Ruben, Herbert, Carlton, Wilmer, and Luther Rex. He is survived by his loving partner, Marilyn Stokes; sisters, Arlene Marsteller and Betty Brunner; children, Gordon Rex and wife Lynn, Sandra Masters, Linda Fenstermaker, Gary Rex, Terry Rex and wife Lisa, Jeff Zellner and wife Shelly, Michele Swartz and husband John, Allison Kim and husband Billy, Brad Zellner, Preston Rex and wife Michele, Shirley Gomez and husband Adam, and Mike Dicus and wife Sarah; as well as 40 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Gordon was born, raised, and lived in Pennsylvania until he moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1970. He eventually moved to Valencia County in 1985 where he resided until the time of his passing. When he wasn't enjoying his large family Gordon spent much of his time fixing cars, diesel trucks, farm and construction equipment, pretty much anything on wheels. He was a mechanic by trade and owned many of his own businesses, one of them being Rex Automotive. With his vast knowledge of mechanics and great patience he also taught many others the trade he loved so much. Fittingly, Gordons' greatest love besides his family was being involved with car racing at local dirt tracks. He raced cars himself, sponsored other racers, and was willing to help in any way; if it had to do with dirt racing Gordon was involved. As well as dirt racing he also took on the task of collecting, rebuilding, then selling classic cars. His passion for all things automotive was only one of the things Gordon enjoyed. He also spent his time playing guitar with friends and family, a love he passed on to some of his sons. Gordon was greatly loved and will be missed immensely. MORRIS, DUARD I. A resident of Albuquerque for 15 years, passed away on January 31, 2014. He was born on March 24, 1938 in Carlsbad, NM. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children; and ten grandchildren. He was an employee of Los Alamos National Laboratories as an electrical engineer for 30 years. David was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 4, 1928, completed his High School Education at East Las Vegas High School and attended Highlands University where he focused on Business Management and Accounting. In 1961 David and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. For many years David worked as an insurance agent, but ultimately obtained as position as a Taxation and Revenue agent and District Tax Director for the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, retiring in 1984 to care for his ailing wife. HORNER, SALLY A. Age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Sally was born on June 16, 1929, to Leonardo and Margherita (Vitale) Talluto in Cinisi, Sicily, Italy. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 3. She will be remembered for the love of her family, friends, sewing and cooking. She will be missed by everyone who's life she touched. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Leonard Horner; son, Leonard M. Horner; grandsons, Leonard John Horner and John Vincent Horner. GOMEZ, WILFRED Former Santa Rosa native, Wilfred Gomez passed away peacefully on Monday, February, 3rd, at his home in Albuquerque surrounded by his loved ones. Wilfred was born on April 30, 1940 to the home of Guadalupe and Rosa (Garcia) Gomez. He attended Santa Rosa Schools graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 1957. He retired from the State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division where he served as Manager of the Albuquerque Field Office for 30 years. He enjoyed getting together with his brothers to play their guitars. He was preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe and Rosa Gomez. Survivors include his children Rosalie Gomez, Dwane Gomez, Janel Buonomo (Frank), David Gomez (Jane), Michelle DeHerrera (Mike), Tony Gomez (Valerie) and Eric Gomez (Sheri); along with 13 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters Fred Gomez and wife Pita, Chris Gomez, Alfonso Gomez, Gilbert Gomez and wife Fabby, Richard Gomez and wife Jeannie, Georgia Gomez, Deborah Gomez-Lopez and husband George, Danny Gomez and wife Cindy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friend. GALLEGOS, LAURA JEAN Age 51, passed away at home Wednesday, January 29, 2014. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 24,1963. She was preceded in death by her mother Kathryn who she now joins in heaven. Laura is survived by her father Louis Gallegos along with her children James Gallegos, Robert and wife Breeanna Thompson. BENAVIDEZ, MARIO M. Mario Miguel Benavidez went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 30, 2014. He had a brilliant mind and the golden and courageous heart of a LION. He loved with passion and was loved passionately by his wife, three beautiful daughters, and everyone who was blessed with his one-of-a-kind way of establishing deep relationships with others. He spent endless afternoons at the park with his three daughters and cooked breakfast for them daily. He used his 2004 UNM law degree to counsel many friends and family and answered his calling to strengthen the struggling and underserved through his service on the YDI Board of Directors, as an advocate for access to justice, working for NM Voices for Children, in running a youth detention center mentorship program, as an actor in many local theater productions, and in being such a revered friend to so many. He was a hero to his daughters, his wife, his twin brother Javier (who he consoled on the first day of preschool by reading to), his Mom, and the countless lives in which he had a deeply positive impact. He was predeceased by his Dad Eddie Benavidez and dear cousin Hector DeLeon, several uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his soul-mate wife Sylvia; his three treasured daughters Naylani (4), Giada (2), and Milania (1); his sacred twin brother Javier; his unconditionally loving Mama Margaret; his adoring in-laws Sylvi and Bella; and many cherished friends and families too numerous to list but not forgotten. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Feb. 8th at 9:00AM at Victory Outreach Church of Albuquerque, 1404 Lead Ave SE, ABQ, NM 87106. He will be laid to rest at 11:30AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, ABQ, NM 87102, followed by a gathering for all friends and family at 12:30PM at the Wool Warehouse in Downtown Albuquerque, 516 1st Street.
