FLANAGAN, DEBORAH ANNE died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday following a two-month struggle with pneumonia. She was predeceased by her mother, Marcella Flanagan. She is survived by her parents Virginia and Robert Flanagan, her sisters Laura, Patricia, Mary Sue, Kathleen, Maureen, and brother Paul. Many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews also survive her. She is also survived by a dear friend, Cassandra Floran and her husband, Bobby who were almost family to her. Deborah was a UNM graduate and was employed by the City Attorney's office until her retirement at the end of 2011. Deborah was a bright, joyful and generous person. She volunteered to help many causes, including animal humane organizations, Esperanza de Joaquin, a poor village in Mexico, and helped serve meals to the homeless at St. Martin's. Much of her love was poured out to her animals, many of them strays abandoned in the mountains. She nursed many back to health, found homes for most, and kept them until she found a suitable home. She was a major contributor to Tanzanian projects of Ecology Action, an organization dedicated to spreading an organic, sustainable method of agriculture throughout the world, especially to the places where starvation of children is still a reality. When her parents were no longer able to drive, she was always there to satisfy their every need and even their wants. Deborah learned and lived the dictum to "Love your neighbor as yourself." Deborah would want any contributions to be made to the animal humane organization, Second Chance Animal Rescue Organization or to Ecology Action, 5798 Ridgewood Road, Willits, CA 95490 for their Tanzanian projects with the African Benedictine Sisters. A mass of Christian burial will be said at Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Road at 2 PM on Friday, 15 March

DENTON, EDWARD H. (TED) Age 94, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born in London, England on November 1, 1918, the third of four children of Prof. and Mrs. Francis M. Denton. In 1925, the family crossed the Atlantic to settle in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Prof. Denton had been invited to organize the Electrical Engineering Department at the State's University. In Albuquerque, Ted went to elementary and high school, and, after two years of college at UNM, transferred to the Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas, where he got his BA degree with the idea of attending the University's seminary. Interrupted by the second world war and two years in the US Navy, he decided, instead, to marry his college-days sweetheart, Mary Lou Williams. The two settled, at first in Chicago, where Ted worked as a technologist at the University of Chicago's Research Institutes, and she as a teacher of set design at the Art Institute's Goodman Theater. Fourteen years later, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, with their five-year-old son, where Ted oversaw the development of a rocket-borne, cryogenic air sampler for the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Upon completion of that project, and following the untimely death of their son, Ted and Mary Lour moved to Denver where Ted helped develop specialized instruments for the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver and Reston (Virginia), until 1982, when he retired. At that time Ted and Mary Lou returned to New Mexico, where Mary Lour pursued her special talent as a portrait and landscape painter, and Ted turned his attention to developing a simple freeze-drying apparatus for preserving biological specimens, and to helping teachers in the public school systems discover the insights to be found in the world's great literature. He was preceded in death by his wife, May Lou (Williams) Denton; his brother, Francis C. Denton; and a sister, Mrs. Lucia Salat, all of Albuquerque; and a sister, Mrs. Clyde Kamatchis, of Levittown, Long Island, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Edward's honor to Ambercare Hospice, 2129 Osuna Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. CORMIER, BERNADETTE NORMA Bernadette Cormier of Albuquerque, New Mexico, age 85, passed away early Friday morning, March 1, 2013. Bernadette (Bernie) was born in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Rozella Harget on August 20, 1927. She was raised in Toledo and attended DeVilbiss High School, where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1945. With two of her best friends, she ventured to Colorado Springs and worked as a legal secretary until 1955, when she met and married her husband of 57 years, Robert (Bob) Cormier, a U.S. Army Infantry Officer. For the next nineteen years, Bob and Bernie raised four sons and three daughters as they traveled from post to post. In 1974, Bernie and Bob retired from Army life and settled the family in Albuquerque, where they have lived ever since. Bernie shared Bob's love for the Army and thrived as an "army wife," proving to be the anchor for the family and lead in raising their seven children, especially during Bob's two tours of duty in Vietnam. She was active in her children's activities and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially sewing, quilting, and toll painting. Once her children had grown and left home, she remained active as a volunteer at Anna Kaseman Hospital and in helping raise her grandchildren. Bob and Bernie were both lifelong, devout Catholics, active at Annunciation Parish and the Catholic community's Marriage Enrichment Program. Bernie has now joined Bob, who preceded her in death last summer, her parents, all five of her brothers and sisters, and one infant child. She is survived and beloved by her seven children; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; and many friends of the family. Proverbs 31:26-31 - She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her saying "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Rosary will be recited for Bernie on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at French-Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. June took a leave of absence following the birth of her son Stephen. When he started school she returned to the Federal service at WAF Base as a court reporter. Active in community affairs, June was a charter member of the Assistance League of Roswell and of her church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Upon the closure of Walker Air Force Base, the Blairs moved to Merced, California where June continued her career as a Federal Court Reporter with the Air Force. During her career she traveled throughout the Southwest, sought after for highly classified cases, as she was one of the few court reporters with top secret clearance. When the opportunity arose in the late 70's the Blairs returned to Albuquerque, where June continued her court reporting duties at Kirkland AFB. She retired there after 41 years of federal service. Shortly before her retirement she was honored to have a new court room at Kirkland Air Force Base named in her honor. In Albuquerque, June was a member of the Lew Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of Saint Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church. She is predeceased by her husband Frank, son Stephen, her parents, and her sister Ada Robinson. Survivors include her nieces Whitney Blair, Kelly Robbins, Lane Leadingham and nephew Dr. Chris Robinson. The family request contributions are made to a charity of choice. Graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the family plot at South Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. BALDWIN, CAROLYN OCTAVIA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn last Sunday, March 3, 2013. She went peacefully, knowing that she packed a full and wonderful life in her 90 years on this earth. She was born in Springfield, Ohio to Charles and Inez McDargh on August 9, 1922. Carolyn was the oldest of eleven kids, having five brothers and five sisters. She often remarked that after helping her mother take care of so many children she didn't much care about being around kids anymore. Fortunately, for her own three offspring, she briefly overcame those thoughts. Her brothers and sisters were Doris (dec.), Janis (dec.), Bill (dec.), Raymond (dec.), Jim (dec.), Bud (dec.), Larry (Kansas), Rita (Arizona), Ruth Ann (dec.), and Sharon (Nebraska). Carolyn joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1944 and was assigned to a recruiting unit along with other lovely young ladies. Unfortunately for the Army, she met and fell in love with a handsome and dashing Army Air Corps Captain Irl Edgar Baldwin, Jr., a B-17 bomber pilot that had returned from the European Theater. They were married in September 1944, and she was honorably discharged in 1945 after becoming pregnant. Irl Jr. was re-assigned to a B-29 unit and headed for the Pacific Theater. Before leaving, he took Carolyn to stay with his parents at their fruit farm in the Yakima Valley, Washington. He told her if their child was a boy, under no circumstances to name him after him and his father. Irl Edgar Baldwin, III was born in August, 1945. Concurrently, Irl Jr. landed on Tinian Island in the Pacific and saw two secluded heavily guarded B-29s off in the distance and wondered what the fuss was about. He later learned that the planes were the Enola Gay and Boxcar that had dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Irl returned from the Pacific Theater, decided to stay in the service, picked up Carolyn and Irl, III (now known as Bucky), and moved to his new assignment in Denver, Colorado. Linda Lee Baldwin was born in 1948. The young Baldwin family moved to Pullman, Washington where Irl finished his college education and earned a B.S. in Physics from Washington State University. In 1950, Irl and Carolyn decided to formally change their son's name to Lance George Baldwin. During their time in Washington, Irl taught Carolyn how to play bridge. This turned out to be their avocation for the next 50 years. The next move was a three year assignment to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Then came a year in Prattville, Alabama, where Irl attended the Air Force Command and Staff Course in Montgomery. In 1955 the Baldwins moved to Albuquerque for their first of two tours, and fell in love with the city. They bought a house in Hoffmantown and they never sold it because they both always knew they would return to it. While in Albuquerque, Carolyn became a Life Master (a rating of the American Contract Bridge League) much to the chagrin of Irl that she beat him to that goal. In 1959, Shannon Kay Baldwin was born and the family was transferred to Alexandria, Virginia where Irl worked at the Air Force Technical Applications Center. Livermore, California was the next destination for the Baldwins where they stayed for three years from 1963 to 1965. Albuquerque was the final assignment from 1965 to 1968 when Carolyn and Irl retired from the military. He continued for another 15 years in the Civil Service while they played a lot of bridge and Irl finally became a Life Master Bridge player himself. Every place she lived, Carolyn would do volunteer work for the Red Cross and at military hospitals. She raised her kids and was proud of them. Irl passed away in 2002 and she was never quite the same as she was when she had her soul mate. They are now reunited and will forever be together. Carolyn and Irl are just now beginning their eternal journey together at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Carolyn's children Lance and wife Ruth, Linda and husband Cliff Hays, and Shannon all reside in Albuquerque. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jarred Baldwin and wife Crystal (Albuquerque), Jesse Baldwin and wife Brooke (Albuquerque), Kelly Hays (Maryland), and Tony Hays (Australia). There is one great-granddaughter, Emma Shea Baldwin (Jesse and Brooke's daughter). Carolyn's family wishes to thank Advantage Home Health Care and Hospice for several years of home care assistance and the last five months of hospice team support. Thanks also go to FRENCH Mortuary on Wyoming for their very professional and caring arrangements.
