Obituary for MARTINEZ

MARTINEZ, JERRY passed away after a short illness on March 24, 2014 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones in Rio Rancho NM. Our beloved Jerry was a loving and caring husband of 60 years, father of six, grandfather of ten, great- grandather of 16, mentor and friend of many. As a devout Catholic, he was strong in his faith, very humorous, humble and giving. His smile was contagious and lit up the room wherever he was. He was very proud of his family and was the glue that held everything together. He couldn't do enough for others and enjoyed spending time with others, fishing and hunting. His passion and love for life while being a very proud and strong-willed man was admirable. His hope filled strength to carry on and beat the obstacles in life was heroic. His spirit will live on forever. He served in the Korean War while in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school at the age of 15. His career consisted of serving the government in the federal court system as a court reporter for Frank B. Zin and Juan Burciaga in Gallup NM when he retired after 36 years in 1997. He is survived by his loving wife Reba J. Martinez of Greenville South Carolina; his daughters Sherry Lynn Montoya and Pat Martinez; granddaughters Raven Garcia, Rebagayle Vialpando, Shawna Moore; grandsons Michael Paul Montoya, Kristen Tafoya, Moses Sarracino III, BJ Sarracino, Brian Sarracino, Daniel Martinez and Jerry Martinez. He was a native New Mexican born in Velarde who is also survived by his sisters Perfecta Vialpando and Cecilia Martinez. Other family members consist of nieces Bernadette Keil, Peggylee Martinez, and Yolanda Martinez amongst many other family members all over the country. A Rosary and funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, located at 1502 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124 followed by a small reception at VFW Post 5890 located at 76 Unser Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. MAESTAS, ELIZABETH ELAINE On March 21, 2014 our heavenly father came down to earth and put his arms around Elizabeth Elaine Maestas and took her home. Besides her parents, she leaves behind her children, Angel, Santiago, and Manuel Lino. She is also survived by sisters, Antoinette Maestas and Savannah Glass; and brothers, Jonathan Maestas and Gabriel Arnold. Also surviving her is her maternal grandmother Mercedes Garcia and god parents Art and Mona Marchese, as well as numerous aunts, uncles nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper AVE. in Albuquerque where the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. GURULE, MATTHEW B. 53, of Jarales, New Mexico passed away Friday March 21, 2014. He was born on February 14, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Jose and Maria Gurule. He is survived by his son Matthew; daughter Rheanna; and granddaughter Alyssa. Matthew is also survived by his sisters Barbara, Lita, and Patty, extended family Tiffany and children, numerous nephews and nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose Gurule and Maria Estrada. Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family and riding horses. He was a former Jockey who rode in New Mexico, Arizona, and Oklahoma. He will be remembered for his love of his children and animals and his joking manor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00am at Calvary Chapel Rio Grand Valley in Belen, New Mexico.

GRAHAM, MARGARET ANNA (MULLEN) passed away on March 23, 2014, after a brief illness. She passed peacefully and surrounded by family. Margaret was born in Denver, CO, on October 11, 1918. She is survived by her daughter Donna and son-in-law (D'Arcy White); her son Dennis and daughter-in-law Angela; two grandchildren Genevieve and Jerry; and two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents Edmund L. Mullen and Mary Anne (Thomas), and her brother Edmund (Eddy). Margaret was raised in Denver, graduating from Loretto Heights College in 1940 and earning her Masters in Sociology from St. Louis University in 1942. She served as a medical social worker for the Red Cross during WW II at Bruns General Hospital in Santa Fe, NM, where she met her future husband, Frank E. Graham, who worked as a hospital administrator in the US Army. After the war they moved to Albuquerque where they raised their two children. Frank was a teacher in APS while Margaret worked at the Catholic Social Services adoption agency and then for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she retired in 1984. She did volunteer work with the elderly after her retirement. She moved to Longmont in 1996 to be near her grandchildren. Margaret loved her family, her church, reading, a good cocktail, and playing bridge. She was a delight to her friends and a gift to her family. A rosary will be held at St. Francis of Assisi parish in Longmont this Saturday morning, March 29th, at 9:30, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM. She will be interred with her husband Frank at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Catholic Charities, or to a charity of your choice. Felipe was a man of few words and was known by all as to be gentle, quiet, kind, loving, and hard working. FLAHERTY, EDITH LAURETTE DUVEN passed away at the age of 90 on the morning of March 25th, 2014, at home after a brief illness. She is survived by her two sons, Paul and his wife Diane, and David and his wife Joanne. She is also survived by her grandson Sean Flaherty and her older brother Robert Duven. After graduation from high school in WWII, Edith worked for the Rationing Board in the Rockland Town office till the end of the war. She married Joseph Edward Flaherty, a Chief in the U.S. Submarine Navy in 1946, and the two were happily married until Joseph's death in 1998. Edith spent some years working for the government at the Underwater Sound Lab in New London, Connecticut. She joined the Eastern Star in Connecticut, and remained active in the organization when in New Mexico. She began writing in 1976, and would eventually publish seven books, including her award winning Home Before Dark, an autobiography of growing up in the depression. She and Joseph moved to Albuquerque in 1978, and she founded a writers group which is still active today, and has helped its members publish several books. DUBROFF, WARREN Age 93, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Warren was a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years and served as a Captain in the US Air Force during World War II. He was an engineer and inventor, obtaining degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering and holding 20 patents. Warren is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne DuBroff; sons Richard DuBroff (wife Janet) and Robert DuBroff (wife Hong Hai); and his grandchildren Nicholas DuBroff and Jason DuBroff. CORDOVA, ERNIE F. passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Hewas a hunter, fisherman, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born and raised in Reserve, New Mexico. Ernie is now reunited with parents, Ernesto and Carlotta Cordova and five siblings: Laura Ruther, Tina Baca, Zella Baldonado, Stella Quintana and Cathy Cordova. Ernie is survived by five children: Diana Swift, children TJ (and his wife Ashley), Mathew and Weston; Lori Oistad (husband Eric) children Trevor and Olivia; Ernie Cordova (wife Natalie) children Kayla, Ashlynn, Baylee and Maya; Joy Cordova, children Ysias and Elijah; Mikeal, child Zayden; wife Beth; sisters Dolly Baca, Violet Mills, Yolanda Cordova; brother Chris Cordova and a long list of cousins, nieces and nephews. All of his relatives were very dear to him. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. CLEVELAND, JOHN T. a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Saturday, March 22 at age 52. He is survived by his son, Connor; wife, Bonne; father, John W. Cleveland; brother, Chris P.Cleveland; and nephew Christopher P. Cleveland; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large extended family of friends. He will be missed for his humor, his great talent to make everyone he met feel at ease, and his deep devotion to family and friends. CECCHINI, ALBERT A. Albert Cecchini "Al" passed away March 23, 2014. Albert was born on July 9, 1926 in Chicago, IL. He was together with his family during his last days. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Evelina and Vincenzo Cecchini and his sister Gloria Houghton. Al lived in Chicago most of his life and retired in Albuquerque, NM. He was an avid golfer with his proudest moment of a hole-in-one at Tanoan Country Club. Albert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine; and their three children and spouses, Alana Eager (Richard) of Albuquerque, NM, Patti Gerke (David) of Carlsbad, CA, and Michael Cecchini (Catherine) of Placitas, NM; along with his four grandchildren, Claire, Colleen, Christopher and Alise; and two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Sam. Albert attended Northwestern University in Chicago after serving in the US Army in WWII in the European Theater. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946 and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He spent his entire career with International Harvester and retired in 1985 after 42 years. We would like to extend a special thank you to his young friends and caregivers, Lucas, Maria, Liliana, Ricky and Elsa. Thank you for all the love and caring you gave him. BUSSE, JACOB 1973-2014 Jacob Busse, age 40, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Los Lunas. Jake was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico on December 9, 1973. Jake attended Los Alamos and Jemez Valley schools. He was self-employed as an HVAC technician and a skilled craftsman. He loved being in the outdoors, the Jemez Mountains, and fishing. ALLEN, LAWRENCE Lawrence Allen, known as Red to his family and friends, was born on July 27, 1928 in Minden, Louisiana and passed away on March 23, 2014. Red moved to New Orleans as a teenager and met Harriett, his wife of 63 years, at a church social welcoming the incoming class of nursing students at the Baptist Hospital Nursing School, of which Harriett was a member. Red worked for the railroad, like his father. While working and raising a family, Red returned to school and upon graduation, he was employed by Sinclair Oil. He transferred to Albuquerque in 1961, in what he always said was one of the best moves he ever made. He worked for ACF and then began his career at Sandia Laboratories in 1967. He retired in 1994. Red was a long-time member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church and taught fifth-grade boys' Sunday School for 19 years. He loved his Lord, family, sports, newspapers, bargains and telling wonderful stories of growing up in Northern Louisiana, living in New Orleans, and working on the railroad. Red is survived by his wife, Harriett; brother, Joe and his wife, Louise; sisters, Jean Hooper and Mary Plonsky and her husband Bobby. His parents, Lawrence and Vivian, and his sister, Anne Ivankovich predeceased him. He is also survived by his son, Larry; and his daughters, Vivian Avalos, Laura Greenway and Carolyn Wolf and her husband, Aaron; his grandchildren, Megan and husband Mark, Russell, Rebekah and husband Mousa, Sarah and husband Eric, Lawrence and fiancee Bianca, Michelle and husband Steven, Kayla, Victoria, Madison, Laurel and Ella; and his great-granddaughter, Rafeef. TELLES, JOSEPHINE M. Josephine M. Telles was called home by our Lord on Thursday, March 27 at age 95. The daughter of Juan and Flora Montoya, she was one of eight children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Telles, and is survived by one brother, Frank Montoya; three children, Phyllis Torres, Kathy Orell and husband Seth, Bert Telles and his partner Teresa Lombardi; grandchildren Anna Marie Dykeman and husband Kenny, James Martinez and wife Kelly; and her great-grandchildren Maximillian Dykeman, and Angelina and Sofia Martinez; as well as many extended family and friends. Josephine showed her love through her wonderful cooking, by sharing her abounding wisdom, and by all that she did for those she loved. Her award-winning recipes were featured in a local cookbook of New Mexican cooking. The family especially thanks The Woodmark at Uptown staff and hospice caregiver Indira Hernandez for their loving kindness and support during Josephine's final years. A service in celebration of her life will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Calvary of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna Rd. NE. Honorary Pallbearers are Bert Telles, James Martinez, Kenny Dykeman and Maximillian Dykeman. Guests are asked to share stories and memories of Josephine. Interment will take place at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

He is survived by his parents Transito and Dolores Quintana; his Special Love Cenia Oldfield; brothers Max (Pauline), Wayne Paul (Sharon) Quintana and sister-in-law Lori Trujillo; nephews Ryan (Ashley), Eugenio, Adrian and Adam; nieces Tarah (Adrian), Victoria (Jose) and Tanya; great- nieces Aaliyah, Juelenna and Lillianna; great-nephew Elias Faraone; his special daughter Terri; and also by his mother-in-law Celina Gutierrez; grandmother Cecilia Gutierrez and brother-in-law Aaron Lucero. He will be remembered for his cooking, sense of humor and always left everyone with a smile. He loved his friends and family so very much. Lets not forget how he enjoyed his cold frescos with them. A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, New Mexico. Interment will be followed at a later date. OTTINGER, LESLIE &Quot;LES&Quot; WADE age 87, passed away on March 24, 2014. He was born to Ily Macon Ottinger and Maude Ilene Violet Potter on April 30, 1926 in Midwest, WY and grew up in Greeneville, TN. He was the couple's second of four children. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Neely Macon Ottinger and his mother-in-law, Della Cooper. Les is survived by his brother Lindy Earl Ottinger, Sr.; his sister, Saralaska Black and her husband, Bernie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Les also leaves behind Blanche, his wife of 51 years, who misses him dearly. Additionally, he is survived by the couple's daughter, Diana Lueras and his two grandchildren, Savannah and Christopher Lueras. Les proudly served on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Wachusett from 1949 to 1953. Afterwards, he returned to Greeneville and began dating Blanche. They dated for 10 years before marrying in 1963. Afterwards, Les' job with Frontier Airlines moved the couple and Blanche's mother, Della Cooper, to Moab, UT, where the family ran a honey and bee keeping business. Frontier then transferred them to Albuquerque, NM, where the family made their home for almost 50 years. While in Albuquerque, Les completed his Associates Degree in Engineering Technology and worked for several companies with his newfound degree. In his golden years he kept himself busy designing and selling business cards. Les loved science, technology, astronomy, writing, poetry, magic tricks, bolo ties and was a master at Sudoko. As much as he loved the southwest, Les felt his true home was in Greeneville. As he wished, his ashes will be interned in Tennessee. A memorial service followed by a lunch will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 6128 Aldea Avenue, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Pastor Randy Walquist from Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate.
