NUANES, ROMOLO RICHARD age 69, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 11, 2013. Mr. Nuanes is survived by beloved wife of forty three years, Gloria; his son, Richard V. Nuanes and his wife, Desiree; grandchildren, Andrew Gutierrez, Richard Elias Nuanes, and Vincent Jacob Nuanes; father,, Romolo V. Nuanes; sisters, Lucille Nuanes and husband, John Waskiewicz, and Joan Nuanes and Dennis Schneider; nieces and nephew, Tamara, Brian and Diana; great-nephew and nieces, Chad, Ashely, and Victoria; great-great-grandnephew and niece, Bella and Niko; aunts, Ann Lucero and Carmen Hauser; and many extended family members. Mr. Nuanes was preceded in death my his mother, Susan Nuanes. Mr. Nuanes was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Constellation, during the Vietnam Era and was retired from the City of Albuquerque, Human Resources Department. Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2013 at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8321 Camino San Martin SW, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Final visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Schneider, John Waskiewicz, Brian Smith, Chad Smith, Andrew Gutierrez, and Steve Padilla. MILLER, VIOLA CHESS Viola Chess Miller was born May 22, 1930 in San Marino, California to parents Dr. and Mrs. James M. Chess. She died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at age 82. Viola is survived by husband, CDR John R. Miller, US Navy (Ret); daughters, Victoria M. Kight and Linda M. Thomas of Albuquerque; son, Kurt R. Miller; granddaughter, Jennifer; and two great- granddaughters, Evelyn and Genevieve of California; sister, Linda C. Moriarty. Vi was a 1948 graduate of South Pasadena - San Marino High School and a 1952 graduate of the University of New Mexico where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity in 1949. Upon graduation Viola and John were married in Santa Fe, NM and she began her 26 year career as a Navy wife which took them to Hawaii, Virginia and various California port cities. John's Navy retirement brought them back to Albuquerque in 1978. During the years following she was a member and one-time chairman (yes, she insisted, chairman - not chair or chairwoman) of the Albuquerque Open Space program and was very involved in the effort to acquire and establish the Elena Gallegos recreation park and to protect the Westside escarpment from development. She continued her fraternity affiliation after graduation as an active alumna. Her lifetime interest in music led her to a longtime membership in the UNM University Chorus. Not to be overlooked was her oil and watercolor painting, poetry writing and a variety of social activities, both personal and church-related. The world and her community in it have lost a good person. Her family has lost a loving, faithful, protective, forgiving and sincere Rock of Gibraltar upon whom we all depended. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013, 4:30 p.m. at St John Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW. MCCURLEY, CHRISTINE age 89, passed away on March 9, 2013 at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Born on August 29, 1923 in Walton County, Florida, Christine continuously had unconditional love and support for her family. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Survivors are her husband of 70 years, Gafford McCurley; their four children, Ron McCurley, Linda McCurley-Stafford and husband Tom Stafford, JoAnne McCurley and Dorothy McCurley. Her grandchildren are John Speranzo, Laura Summerlin, Kathy Lewis, Melanie Cayce, Josh and Chris Bratton, and Valerie Sorto; and her nine great-grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, and they belonged to various clubs in Albuquerque and Elephant Butte for over 40 years. She participated in boy and girl scout activities when her children were young. Christine was a beautiful strong woman full of a love for life. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 9:30am at Crestview Baptist Church, 301 Chama NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will take place at 1:30pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM. MAESTAS, EDWARD D. Age 66, a resident of Ranchitos passed away on March 12, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Ida Maestas; wife Sherry; and brother Joey Maestas; also by his horse "Rags". Edward retired from the State of New Mexico where he was an accountant. He was a former City Councilor. He was an entrepreneur and enjoyed his retirement spending time with his horses, cars and going to the casino. Edward is survived by son Eddie and wife Priscilla Maestas; daughter Valerie Maestas; grandchildren Eddie Jr., Mia and Jonah; favorite uncle Lee Espinosa; several nieces and many other relatives. LIZAR, WANDA M. At the age of 94, a resident of Pena Blanca, NM since 1971, and a lifelong resident of NM, died Monday March 11, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Lizar, father, mother, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her two brothers, Jim Woods and wife Jan, Herb Woods and wife Arlene; daughter, Karen and husband Murray Lewis; three grandchildren, Theran, Aaron and Tara and their spouses; six great - grandchildren; and four great-great -grandchildren. Wanda was an amazingly strong independent woman, who loved being outdoors and with family around her. KINGSBURY, DAVID CLARE beloved husband and father, passed away the morning of March 10, 2013 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 15th at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Miller); children Kathy (James) Bunting of Golden, CO; Laura Anderson of Castle Rock, CO; Eileen (Sheldon) Chipp of Fallon, NV; David Kingsbury, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; and Richard (Amber) Kingsbury of Edgewood, NM. David also had two 'adopted' stepsons: Al Echeverria of Golden, CO and Viktor Forsell of Linkoping, Sweden . David is also survived by his brother, Paul Kingsbury of Albuquerque, NM; Georgia's daughters Lori Buck of Crystal, MN and Gwen (Randy) Nagel of Bismarck, ND; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. David served in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in Korea from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged. David was commissioned into the New Mexico State Police in 1957 and retired as a Major in 1985. David and Annette moved to Bismarck, ND where he began a second career working for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for the State of ND. He retired from the State of ND in April, 1995. Annette passed away in 1993. David married Georgia Miller in 1994 with whom he enjoyed 18 years. In their retirement years they traveled in their fifth wheel camper to all the states west of the Mississippi River, several states to the east, and various Canadian provinces. David and Georgia also traveled to Sweden to attend the wedding of Viktor Forsell. In 1994 David joined Charity Lutheran Church where he and Georgia have remained active members. There he participated in the Alpha program, was Director of the Lay Ministry Board for a period of time, participated in Bible studies, and for a considerable number of years, assisted Georgia in organizing and setting up the Lord's Supper. Dave was active in fishing and hunting, wood carving, was an avid reader and had a great love for classical music. A private burial will be at the Veterans National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, where there will be military honors at a later date. KELLY, RONNIE LEE passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, at the age of 70. He was born January 5, 1943, son of Robert Lee Kelly and Opal Maxine Jackson Kelly. He was raised among the rolling hills overlooking the Mississippi River, south of Louisiana, Missouri. The Native American artifacts he found on the family farm began his interest in Archeology and he completed a Bachelor's degree in Archeology at the University of Missouri, Columbia. While there he completed ROTC and entered the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1964. He served his country in South Vietnam and was there in 1968 during the Tet Offensive. During his 20 year career in the Air Force he was posted to bases in Texas, South Carolina, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Missouri, and California. He spent two years at Howard Air Force Base, Panama Canal Zone, with responsibilities for Command and Control. His service at Whiteman Air Force Base with the Strategic Missile Squadron was very significant for him. He retired in 1984 with the rank of Major. His awards included the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Metal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Good Conduct with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He completed his Master's Degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and a member of the Honor Guard from 2003 through 2012. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars, dancing and sharing jokes with his friends. He is survived by a sister, Kay Raithel, of Jefferson City, Missouri, a nephew, a niece, twin great nephews and twin great nieces, close friends Rory Veronda and Tommy and Ruth Wilbanks, many cousins and exceptional friends. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at American Legion Post 49, March 18, 3:00-5:00 PM (1500 1700 hours). Interment March 19, 2:15 PM at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HERNDON, KENNETH LEE beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2013, and received a heavenly welcome from his beloved wife Patti. We will miss him but we find joy in knowing he has entered a new and perfect life with Christ. Ken was born on December 11, 1928 in Sedalia, Missouri to Joseph and Janie Herndon, and grew up there. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946 and met the love of his life, Patricia Lee Worster, at a dance in September 1949; they married on his 21st birthday that same year. Ken was chosen for Air Force Officer Candidate School in 1954, rising through the ranks before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in April 1975. Throughout Ken's Air Force career, they lived in different states and countries and had four daughters: Mary Bailey of Columbus OH, Barbara Wilcox of Corpus Christi TX, Melanie Christenson of San Antonio TX, and Holly Huddle of Albuquerque NM. During his retirement years, Ken found outlets for his varied talents but most enjoyed building and decorating dollhouses with Patti, attending garage sales, gardening, and reading westerns and mysteries. Active in church, Ken served as Senior Warden, and was a long-time member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew's. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Patti; survived by his daughters, Mary, Barbara, Melanie, and Holly and her husband Gary; as well as seven grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Mandy, Kelli, Ben, Ashley, and Patsi; eight great-grandchildren; brother Joseph and his wife Roma; sister-in-law Barbara; and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Eucharist celebrating his life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd, NE, Albuquerque NM 87112, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., with reception following. FINCHER, JANET L. Age 65, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013. She was born April 21, 1947 in San Antonio, TX. She moved to Albuquerque with her parents in 1955. Janet was an avid reader and loved doing crossword and word puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Lillian Lorraine Jones; and two of her sons Scott and Tony Wayne Fincher. She is survived by her son James Lucher; daughter Sarah Rhoades (Cory Hodges); grandsons Jordan and Jayce Rhoades; daughter -in-law Christie Fincher; and many wonderful friends, including Doyle Fincher and Mike Rhoades. Janet touched many lives by always doing things for others before doing for herself. She will be greatly missed.
