Obituary for RYAN

RYAN, LEO D. Age 94, passed away from natural causes on April 14, 2014 at home surrounded by family. He was born February 18, 1920 in Lock Haven Pennsylvania, seventh of twelve children to Harry J. and Lynetta (Beck) Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harry J. Jr., William, Charles, E. Anthony, Joseph and A. Mark, sisters Eva Mae, Caroline, Rose, Kathleen and Marguerite. Leo married Kathleen L. Nichols, who survives him, on March 20, 1943. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. They have two sons, David B. and Joseph A. who also survive. Additionally, he is survived by by numerous nieces and nephews. Leo served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He worked for Piper Aircraft Company of Lock Haven, PA, prior to his service. He graduated from Lock Haven State Teachers College with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He moved his family to Albuquerque in 1956 and worked on the Sandia Base as a Security Specialist for the Defense Atomic Support Agency and later the Defense Nuclear Agency until his retirement. Leo enjoyed his hobbies of photography and cassette tape correspondence with people across the country and around the world. He loved traveling, especially to Laughlin, NV where the Colorado River reminded him of his beloved Susquehanna. He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, April 21st at 1:30pm.

RAMIREZ, MARCOS AURELIO Age 40, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 14th, 2014. He is survived by his spouse, Maggie Siebert of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Ruben Ramirez of Denver, Colorado; father, Ernesto Ramirez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; mother, Judith Anderson of Bisbee, Arizona; grandmother, Ileen Mattson; niece, Piper; and nephew, Finn. Marcos was a video editor at KRQE News Station, Channel 13. He will be remembered for his service to many local nonprofits, such as New Mexico Indy Media; his work on various documentary film projects, such as Yellow Fever; and his involvement in local activism and progressive political projects, such as Progressive New Mexico Radio Show (the podcast!). A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at 9:00 AM at the Guild Cinema, 3405 Central Avenue, 87106, in Albuquerque.

MONTANO, MARY J. (GARCIA) Age 92, went to be with The Lord on April 11, 2014. Mary (called Nanny by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren), a lifelong resident of Old Town and Albuquerque's South Valley, was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Patricio (Pat) M. Montano, her parents Luisa Lopez Garcia and Ambrosio Garcia, brothers Ambrosio Jr. and Joe, sister Emma, and her grandson Kyle Almeida. Mary is survived by her daughter Patricia (Patsy) McDaniel and her husband Don, and their daughter Jennifer and son Sean; son LeRoy Montano; daughters Rebecca Baker and Elizabeth Almeida and her husband Rich. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer, Haley, Christopher, and Nicole; by great-grandchildren Amara, Mason, Dalton, and Tyler; and by her sister Eloisa Rozzi. Mary's mother died when Mary was just 13, placing her in the motherhood role for her younger brothers and sisters, and making her widowed father heavily dependent upon her. When Mary's sisters grew older, Mary worked outside the home for the Bluestein family. Mary, a devoted Catholic, placed her total faith in The Lord. She constantly took care of others, her own family and her extended family. Mary is well remembered for her exceptional cooking - no one ever left her table hungry! Mary could easily have been a banker - she could always stretch a limited budget to take care of many. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 22, at San Felipe Catholic Church in Old Town, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM the next day, Wednesday, April 23, also at San Felipe Catholic Church. A private burial for the immediate family will follow. Mary asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society. GALLEGOS, CHARLES W. (CHARLIE) On April 13th, Charlie peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family. Charles was 52 years old. He was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice E. Gallegos. He is survived by his father Walter Gallegos of Alb; sister Ruth Gallegos Kerr of Baltimore, MD; and his finacee Marquita Ortiz. He also leaves behind a daughter Brandi Gallegos stationed at Fort Carson, CO; son Jeremy Gallegos and daughter-in-law Bryneen Gallegos of Alb; and two grandsons Reyes and Efrin Gallegos. Charles loved the out doors, hunting, fishing, camping and watching his team play (the Broncos). He was an avid bowler. He loved to sing and had a wonderful voice. Charlie, we love you and miss you. Funeral service will be held at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona SE, on Monday, April 21st, viewing from 9-10am, Rosary at 10am, Mass will follow at 11am and interment immediately following at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Her dear sister and lifelong companion, Amanda Gallegos, preceded her in death May 3, 2012. Iola was married to Oscar L. Ellis Sr. who passed on April 1, 1991. She is survived by her son, Oscar L. WILMETH, ERNEST II Ernest Wilmeth II passed from this life Monday, April 14, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ernest was born December 21, 1952 in Perryton, Texas to Ernest and Doris Jean Wilmeth. He grew up in Spearman, Texas where he graduated from high school. Ernest attended West Texas State University and transferred to Northern Arizona University where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1976. His education and professional affiliations include: B.F.A., Northern Arizona University, Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the West, "Fellow", Great Britain's R.S.A., London, England, International Register of Profiles, Cambridge, England and Ernest is also featured in the pages of "Abstract Art" published in 2003. Ernest painted traditional oils and watercolors for ten years, and in the interim, took a ceramic class from 1982-1985. It was during this period that he began working on smoke-fired clay vessels. In 1995, Ernest returned to two-dimensional work in the form of collages. In 1999, he introduced even more simplified works on canvas and paper of copper, silver or gold leaf. His mantra was "less is more." Ernest is survived by sisters; Nancy McGhee and husband Jim of Plano, Texas and Jan Viglini and husband Bob of Noonday, Texas; niece Dana Mayor and husband Doug of Texas City, Texas; nephews David Smith and wife Barbara of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Russell Smith of League City, Texas. TAYLOR, DENNIS OWEN Dennis Owen Taylor, age 67, left this earthly life on April 7, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Dennis was a beloved and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend and is greatly missed. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK and came to Santa Fe in 1977. He worked as a watercolor painter, mainly painting beautiful southwest landscapes. He was one of the original members, a past president, and board member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists. He was a member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society and the Independent Artists Gallery for many years. Dennis was a devoted student of Sri Gary Olsen and the MasterPath. As a Vietnam veteran, Dennis is honored at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. No public services are planned.

STANCO, ANGELO MARINO a native son of Glen Cove, Long Island, died on April 12, 2014, in Spring Hill, Florida, where he had lived since 1987. He was born on July 19, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo Stanco and Rose Pascucci, as well as his sister, Mary Mazza, and his brother, Michael Stanco. He is survived by his son Retired Sgt. James Stanco and wife Cathy of Temple, Texas, and their daughters, Christina and Sarah Stanco, of Oceanside, California; his daughters Jane Walker and her two children, Noah and Grace, of Corrales, New Mexico and daughter Tammy McNeil and her daughter, Soleil, of Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter Margaret Mary McMurray and her children, Collin and Sophia, of Sandy, Utah; his son Christopher Stanco and his son Sage, of South Pasadena, California; his daughter Kathleen Stanco of Santa Monica, California; Janet Marie McNeil, his first wife and the mother of his six children, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his widow, Joan Stanco of Spring Hill, Florida, his wife of 27 years; nephew John Mazza of Hicksville, New York. Angelo Marino Stanco was a proud Navy man who served the U.S. in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a police officer in Nassau County, New York, for 33 years. He loved a glass of hearty red wine, a chauteaubriand, and a spin on a Harley. He marveled at the success of his children. He carried regret in his heart over some things that had happened that he could not change. His children loved him and will miss him; they will memorialize him at the beach in California this summer. "We love you, Dad. We hope you're doing the Twist with St. Peter and not sitting in the time-out chair. Arrivederci."

SIMPSON, PATRICIA LUCILLE Patricia Lucille Hatfield Simpson, 87, of Albuquerque, passed away on February 24, 2014 at the Clare Bridge Memory Care unit of Brookdale Place. Patricia was born on March 29, 1927, to Clarence and Oleita Hatfield, in Burlington, Iowa. Growing up she spent time in Elkhart, IN, before moving to Kansas City, MO. There she graduated from Southwest High School. She attended college at the University of Missouri, where she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Patricia was an accomplished artist and was a commercial artist for part of her working life. She also worked for her father's engineering firm in Albuquerque. Patricia's favorite years of her life were spent in Hawaii. She lived in Honolulu, Oahu and Hilo, Hawaii. Tending bar kept her busy for a number of years followed by working as a secretary at what was then Holiday Mart. Patricia ended up back in Albuquerque. She worked as a legal secretary before finally retiring. Patricia loved to visit Las Vegas and took many a trip to the city. Patricia was married briefly to Donald Simpson. Patricia is survived by her brother, Marshall Hatfield, White Bear Lake, MN; her sister, Margaret Day Saunders, Albuquerque; and three nephews, Stephen Hatfield, Indianapolis, IN, Michael Day, Edmund, OK, and David Day, Vancouver, WA. A Memorial Service will be held for Patricia on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Activities Room at Brookdale Place, 4910 Tramway Ridge Drive NE.
