COKER, RUTH Age 100, was born Esta Ruth Gilmore on August 26, 1912 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the first child of Chancy Guy Gilmore and Letitia Widau Gilmore. Ruth married Gordon W. Coker in 1933 in Arkansas City, Kansas and had two children, Nancy Ruth and Ronald Gilmore Coker. Ruth lived in Albuquerque from 1951 until 2005 when she moved to Tuttle, OK, where she lived with her son and his family. Gordon was a prominent Albuquerque attorney until his death in 1965. Ruth is survived by daughter, Nancy Donovan of Kingwood, TX; son, Ronald of Tuttle, OK; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Ruth was a member of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque for many years. Ruth was much loved by the many that knew her and will be sorely missed. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Locust St NE. CHVEZ, VENTURA Age 86, was born back to the land on March 11, 2013 at home in Albuquerque surrounded by his family. Born in Cuervo, NM, Ventura led a long and wondrous life as a cowboy, WWII veteran, aircraft painter, retired senior tech at Honeywell, and participant in the Tierra Amarilla courthouse raid of 1967. He is survived by his wife, Cruzita; his five children, Gail, Charlotte, Deborah, Henry, and Adrian; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life and enduring spirit on Thursday, March 21, at 6pm at the Aquinas Newman Center on UNM campus, 1815 Las Lomas Rd NE Albuquerque, NM 87106.

BALTIMORE, LAWRENCE &Quot;LARRY&Quot; PENNY Age 86, longtime resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; step-children, Michael E. Atencio, Debra DeCesaro and husband, Gary, Mark E. Atencio and wife, Laura, Dorothy A. Atencio and Matthew E. Atencio; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by 2 of his step-children, Dolores F. Atencio and Moses E. Atencio. Larry was born in Raleigh, NC as an only child to Josephine Savage. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and later becoming a proud paratrooper in the Army Air Corps. After his retirement from the Army in 1967 he became a sheriff for the State of Kansas in Gary County. He served as sheriff for 5 1/2 years. He, Patricia and her children built a life together and eventually moved to New Mexico where they have lived for the past 19 years. Larry volunteered for the past 5 years for the VA Orthopedics and Physical Therapy Department. Larry had a long and distinguished career in the Army and in public service as a law official. His wife and family will always remember him as a devoted family man and a wonderful example for the youth in the family and the community. ANAYA &Quot;BEN&Quot; BENNY E. Age 75, a man with a servants heart went to our Lord's loving arms on Friday, March 8, 2013. Ben was born in Tajique, NM on February 3, 1938 to Abel and Juanita Anaya. He married the "love of his life", Emily Gutierrez on February 25, 1963. They were married for 48 years before her passing on December 19, 2011. After retiring from the City of Albuquerque on December 31, 1986, he stayed home a couple of months doing some "honey do's" then went to work at his parish, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church for 10 years. In the early 1970's he also worked part-time at Swift & Co. with his brother-in-law, Mores Gutierrez. He loved his church and together with his wife Emily, served joyfully in several ministries: Eucharist Minister, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul (served as President for several years) and the Fiesta Committee where he was the Fiesta Chairman for 25 years. Ben and Emily were honored with the St. Francis de Assisi Award, presented to them by Archbishop Michael J. Sheenan. Thirteen years ago, Ben received the best gift a person could get - a gift of life! His brother Abel "Jr" gave him one of his kidneys for which Ben was forever thankful. Ben, a very kind, humble and unselfish man was always willing to help everyone without complaining; whether it be making pancakes for the church breakfasts, helping his family with home projects, handing out food boxes to the needy or fixing a flat tire for his granddaughter, Melanie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Juanita Anaya; beloved wife, Emily Anaya; brother, Dan Anaya; mother-in-law, Elijia Gutierrez; brothers-in-law, Vicente Garcia, Johnny Cruz and Mores Gutierrez; great-granddaughter, Kaprese Garcia and nephews, John Cruz and Victor Walker. Ben is survived by his daughters, Fernie Gallegos and husband Vince, Daisy Anaya and partner Arlene Moya and Jasmine Anaya; grandchildren, Melanie Nicasio, Amber Garcia and husband Jonathan and Eli Gallegos; great-grandchildren, Carissa Romero, Dominic, Paradise & Michael Gallegos, Kaylee Garcia, Benito and Santiago Anaya and Silas Gallegos; brothers, Laco Anaya and wife Priscilla, Abel Anaya, Jr and wife Alice, Honario Anaya and wife Rosalie, Sammy Anaya and wife Carol, Carmel Anaya and wife Carmela and sisters, Lita Cruz and Beatrice Varela as well as many nephew, nieces, cousins and friends. VALLEJOS, JOSE A. Jose "Papa Joe" Vallejos, age 66, a resident of Albuquerque, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Jose was born on March 30, 1946 in Adelino, New Mexico to Maximiliano and Emilia Vallejos. Jose was preceded in death by his father Maximiliano Vallejos; his mother Emilia Vallejos; and his brother; Rosendo Vallejos. Jose is survived by his wife Vickie; his son Dennis Romero married to Dee Dee; his sibling Leonardita married to Porfirio Lopez, Isabel and her late husband Eppy Torres, Eleanor married to Gene Barela, and Edward Vallejos. His loving memory is passed on through his two grandchildren; Amarise and Jonathon, and several loving nieces and nephews. Jose was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed raising cattle and sheep. This gave him the opportunity to improve his roping and horseback riding skills. Each year he looked forward to the start of deer and bird hunting season. Jose and his brother Rosendo spent hours performing their own version of Hee Haw. Jose sang and imitated Buck Owens, while Rosendo played the guitar and imitated Roy Clark. Their Hee Haw show was a great hit and brought countless hours of laughter and smiles to all those who were fortunate to catch an episode. In 1985 Jose married Vickie Romero and made a home in Albuquerque. His love and devotion to his wife was unwavering and selfless. He retired from the City of Albuquerque at the young age of 43. After retirement, he worked part-time landscaping and enjoyed working outdoors. His crowning joy came nine years ago with the birth of his granddaughter, Amarise. Not to be outdone, four years later his grandson, Jonathon, burst into his life. His favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren who referred to him affectionately as "Papa Joe." Jose was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Visitation will take place Monday, March 18, 2013, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Rd SW, Albuquerque. A Rosary will follow at 6:30 pm also at the Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 9:00 am at St. Anne Catholic Church. Internment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his friends Doug Harris and Luther Lucero, and his nephews David Lopez, Arthur Lopez, Robert Torres, and Paul Torres. Jose will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. TOOKER, SHANNON age 87, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on March 13, 2013. Shannon was born in Chicago, IL on June 17, 1925. She worked for Merrill-Lynch for 27 years. She rose from a position of Sales Assistant to Vice President to Chairman's Club. At the age of 70, Shannon retired and moved from Carefree, AZ to Albuquerque, NM. Shannon is survived by daughter Barbara and husband David Klaus; son Michael Riordan and wife Patricia; two grandchildren Kristen and husband Matt Steffen; Michael Klaus and fiancee Catherine Edmunds, and her sweet poodle, Alfie. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the numerous friends who greatly added value and substance to Shannon's life. SHEFFIELD, HOWARD EDWARD age 79, passed away on 3/15/2013 ending his battle with cancer. Born and raised in Pomona, CA.; son of Lena L. Hunnemuller and Herbert A. Sheffield. Howard was one of 12 children: eight brothers and three sisters. A veteran in the US Army stationed in Alaska in 1955. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 yrs - Glenita Jo Sheffield; Howard and Jo were residents of Albuquerque since 1956. Survived by his beloved sons: David and Danny Sheffield, three grandsons: Justin, Kenny and Michael, two great-grandsons: Evan and Zachariah. Being a master mechanic he began racing at Albuquerque's Speedway Park in the early 60's. He was a dedicated racer, building his own and sharing the knowledge and love of the sport with everyone that raced with him and against him. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, riding his Harley and keeping up with the racing circuit through his son and grandsons. For over 35 yrs, along with Tom and Esther at H&F he provided mechanical services of the highest quality in the school bus industry. A certified master school bus technician, well known and much admired by the entire Helweg family and staff of Helweg and Farmer Transportation. Known to many as Rojo - he will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him. Services will be held Wednesday 3/20/2013 at 4:00pm Chester T. DE DOMENICO, PAUL Paul De Domenico, the Rice-a-Roni Pioneer, passed away on March 14 following a valiant battle with cancer. Paul is survived by his loving wife and best friend Anita, his son Paul and wife Laurie of Santa Fe, their children: Ansley, Domenic, and Sabrina, his daughter Gina, her husband Markus Flanagan of Los Angeles, their children Leila, Isabel and Brianna. Other survivors include his sister, Christine Jackson and brother, Dr. Mark De Domenico of Seattle as well as numerous other relatives. Paul De Domenico was born in San Francisco, California on December 23, 1934 to Merrial and Pasquale De Domenico. After graduating from the University of Washington with a bachelor of arts in Journalism, he served in the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Paul entered the family business and launched a brilliant career pioneering the notion of convenience foods and successfully co-creating and marketing Rice-a-Roni, "the San Francisco Treat." In 1960, in her hometown of Vancouver, Canada, Paul married Anita Ludovici who left behind her promising career as a ballerina. The family corporation expanded and grew to include Ghiradelli Chocolate Co., Golden Grain Pasta Co., Vernell's Candy Co., and others, with factories in Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago. Under his leadership, the family business expanded to Hawaii where Anita and Paul established the Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia Nut Company and stores throughout Hawaii and Asia. While in Hawaii, they started the Parker School on the Big Island. Their pride and joy was raising their two children. In his career, Paul received numerous awards and was friends to Heads of State, Foreign Ambassadors, key business leaders and politicians. Throughout his life, he was actively engaged and had a keen interest in political and current affairs. Paul and Anita moved to Santa Fe in 1989 where they quickly became involved with their community and state and made many close friends. TABORELLI, BARBARA Age 91, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Barbara was born on November 20, 1921 to Fred and Clara Graves in Baldwinville, MA. She is survived by her sister, Janet Ramspott (Gordon); brother, Robert (Phyllis); stepdaughters, Sylvia Taborelli and companion, Clifford Miller and Barbara Handal and husband, Ron Baird; granddaughters, Doralice Handal and Alexis Handal and husband, Kevin Ferrell. Barbara received a bachelor's degree from Framingham State University in 1943 and completed her dietetic internship at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor in 1944. She served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1945-46. She was the dietician at Lovelace Medical Center from 1962 until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, she and her husband served on the board of the Piedra Park District Water System in Arboles, CO, the site of their summer home. She was a member of Altrusa International in Albuquerque and volunteered for 25 years for Meals on Wheels in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rinaldo, her sisters, Jean and Ruth, and her brother, George. Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. If friends desire, they may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
