  • GOODRUM, BILLY REU Age 85, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, NM went to meet his Savior on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He was a member of Albuquerque First Baptist Church for 75 years and has always been very involved in the church. He served as a Deacon and one of his passions was working with the youth. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Garrett, her husband, Ryan, and their children, Keenen, Jayden, Kazne and Jayce of Albuquerque, NM; and his son, Richard Goodrum, his wife, Dawn and their children, Lucas and Alexis of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlynne in 1997. Billy will be missed as a father, a granddad, role model, friend and a faithful servant for God's Kingdom. She was preceded in death by her parents John L. Kennedy and Thelma I. (Popejoy) Kennedy, and her brother John L. Kennedy Jr. Dorothy was born in Albuquerque, NM on December 24, 1936, and grew up in Santa Fe, NM as one of six children. Dorothy graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1955. She worked for Woolco for several years and retired from Creamland Diaries after 20 years. She is survived by her husband Richard Torres; her children Wayne Fincke, Kenneth Fincke, and Carolynn Fincke; her dog Teddy; siblings Donald Kennedy, Patricia Lappe (and husband Bryan), Richard Kennedy (and wife Nadine), and Shirley Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews. Special appreciation to sister-in-law Evelyn (Torres) Romero who opened her home to Dorothy and Richard over the last year.   • POLYARD, LESTER L. Lester L. Polyard, 80, of Albuquerque, NM passed away on August 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late George and Verna Polyard on October 23, 1933 in Wabasha, MN. Lester graduated from Wabasha High School in 1951 and then immediately joined the US Army where he served for 21 years until his retirement in 1973. Lester married Florence "Skip" Chadwick, also of Wabasha, on August 18, 1956. He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and the National EOD Association. His first love was reading and to travel the world with his wife Florence. They took many cruises in different areas of the world until his health became too poor to travel. He loved family gatherings and visiting with his many wonderful friends. Lester is survived by his wife Florence and their children: son Scott (Kim) of Albuquerque, NM, son Brian also of Albuquerque, son Irvin (Ellen) of Colorado Springs, CO, son Dennis of Socorro, NM, son Jeffrey (Melanie) of Albuquerque and daughter Leslie Mulhall (James) of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by two brothers Louis (Janet) Polyard of Lake Havasu, AZ, Glen (Mary) Polyard of Wabasha, MN; two sisters Janice (Bob) Glomski of Wabasha, MN and Marilyn Loechler of Wabasha, MN.   • KROPP, ARTHUR J. JR. was born at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on September 14, 1942 to Arthur J. Kropp, Sr. and Alice Marie Dornback Kropp. He passed away at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 10, 2014. Art lived a full life, having traveled the world as a child of a military family and during his own military service. After graduating from high school in Heidelberg, Germany, he was inducted into the Army by his father. He served as a Medic and a Physician's Assistant at Walter Reed Hospital in the early 1970's. Art was involved with the development and operation of an early heart-lung machine. After his military service, he worked as a Physician's Assistant for surgeons in Louisiana and Wisconsin. After retiring from medicine, Art worked for Tri Clover in Kenosha, Wisconsin until his retirement, when he moved to Albuquerque. Art enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, stamp and coin collecting. He was a proud member of the NRA and the American Legion. Most importantly, Art was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. The positive impact he had on those around him will not soon be forgotten. Arthur J. Kropp, Jr. is survived by his wife of 22 years Eve (LaCombe-Hamsing) Kropp. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Kropp; son Lee Kropp; daughter Jackie Kropp; daughter Jorie Gnoitcynski; son Michael Hamsing; and six grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Rebecca, Corianne, John Arthur and Jody.   • KOCH, JAMES Funeral services for James (Jim) Taylor Koch, 78 year-old former Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014, 2:00 P.M. in "The Chapel" of Lockstone Funeral Home with Ronnie Cope officiating. Burial will follow in Custer City Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, 2014, 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Jim was born November 4, 1935, in Weatherford, OK to Harold "Dutch" Koch and Emma Jane (Taylor) Koch and left this world on Friday, August 8, 2014, surrounded by his family and lifted into the loving care of our Lord on the prayers of friends and loved ones. At 17, Jim enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard. He continued to serve in the Guard after graduating from Weatherford High School in 1953, until enlisting in the United States Army in 1955 where he served with the 10th Infantry Division in Germany. After his Honorable Discharge in 1958, he returned to Weatherford where he met the love of his life, Betty Cope. He and Betty were married on June 7, 1959. Jim continued his education at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1962 with a double major in Math and Physics. Upon graduation from college, Jim accepted a job as a civilian employee at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. In 1969, he and the family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he was employed as a computer programmer by the University of California at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. Jim retired from the University of California in 1994, but returned a few years later as a consultant. In his retirement, Jim and Betty spent several years RVing with the New Mexico Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club, making many dear friends and attending numerous HRRVC rallies nationwide. In 2009, Jim and Betty moved to a full LifeCare community, La Vida Llena, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was there that Jim bid us farewell. The family has great appreciation and deep gratitude for the staff and wonderful team of caregivers at La Vida Llena for the loving care and comfort they provided. Jim will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, a dear brother, a loving father, grandfather and uncle, life-long member of the Methodist Church, avid fisherman, and proud patriot and United States Army veteran. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty (Cope) Koch; three daughters Lisa Stublefield and husband Kelly, Lori Koch, and Cege Koch; two grandsons Tyler Koch and Taylor Koch; brother Tom Koch and wife Wendy; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.

  • HELMAN, MICHAEL RAY Michael Ray Helman, born in Albuquerque October 7, 1967, passed away August 6, 2014 at the age of 46. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lauren E. Helman, and his adopted children Austin and Kennedee of Splendora, Texas; mother Lisa L. Helman; his father Ray M. Helman and wife Lonny R. James of Placitas; aunts and uncles Chris and Dan Doughty and Mary Lou and Nick Frangos; cousins Carolyn & Michael Junchaya of Rio Rancho and Sara and Dave Tabor of St. Paul, MN. Mike loved his family and enjoyed time spent together. He was an avid motorcyclist, and looked forward to weekend rides with his dad. Mike was drawn to Maui and the ocean by his love of windsurfing, and he spent many years there before returning to live in Albuquerque. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. A Rosary will be recited at 8:00 AM on Monday, August 18 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE. The Rosary will be followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 8:30 AM.   • GREEN, IRENE Irene C. Green, age 92, of Oshkosh and formerly of Rio Rancho, N.M., died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Eden Meadows, of Oshkosh. She was born December 20, 1921 in Berlin, WI, the youngest child of August and Clara (Piechowski) Cismoski. Irene attended grade school in Redgranite WI, graduated high school from Loretto Academy, Woodlawn IL, and earned a bachelor's degree from Oshkosh State Teachers College and a Master's degree from the University of Denver. She taught grade school in Wisconsin and Illinois, was a supervisor at the Laboratory School of Mankato (MN) State teachers college, and completed her remaining 27 years of employment as a consultant and Instructional Materials Specialist with the Albuquerque (NM) Public Schools. On December 27, 1974, she married Jack E. Green and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1991. In New Mexico, Irene was active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Casa Angelica (special needs organization); Association of Educational Retirees, and volunteered many hours at St. Joseph's and Veteran's Hospitals in Albuquerque. Irene was an inveterate traveler having visited all 50 states, 7 continents, and traveled 'round the world twice. Irene cherished family, relatives, and friends and staying connected was both a calling and a source of great pleasure. In 1985, Irene and Jack acquired the Cismoski family farm and Irene dedicated much of her retirement to a family sanctuary, museum, and chapel on the grounds. In addition to Jack and her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Adam, Valary, Roman, Arnold, and Gerard and sisters, Mary Angela ("Betty"), Wanda, Martha ("Marge"), Joan, Helen, and Genevieve ("Jane"); one niece and three nephews; dear friend Ann Michele. She is survived by nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends, and very special friend, confidante and companion, Burdette "Bud" Eagon. Funeral services with the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church (Highway 49 south of Berlin). There will be a time for visiting, sharing memories, and prayers from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday August 18, 2014, at Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home, of downtown Berlin, WI, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Catholic Church, Berlin, with the Rev.   • DALESANDRO, MILDRED (MILLIE) Age 90, journeyed peacefully to meet her Lord on August 13, 2014. She was born in Chadron, Nebraska on May 30, 1924. She was a member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. Her interests and hobbies over the years included bowling, dancing, playing bridge, participating in ESA sorority activities and traveling to Hawaii. In 1944, she married George Pogan. She was presently married to Del Dalesandro since 1975. She is survived by her loving husband, Del; and devoted children, including one son, Jerry Pogan (Renee) of Albuquerque and three daughters, Reva Parks of Salida, CO, Janis Wilson (Brian) of Littleton, CO, and Rhonda Reymann of Englewood, CO. Also surviving her are nine special grandchildren and 11 special great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Maud Byer; and her brother, Harlan Byer. Millie will be fondly remembered for her vibrant personality, beautiful red hair, and her ability to socialize anywhere and anytime. As per Millie's request, there are no services planned.   • BENNETT, VELMA CUMMINGS Velma Cummings Bennett was born 21 May 1931, and after high school in Barstow, TX, Velma enrolled at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. In 1949, at age 18, she married Marlowe Dwayne Bennett, and they had one daughter, Rebecca Ann Bennett, born 10 September 1950; two granddaughters, Heather LeChien, born 3 August 1983 and Hayley Burnham, born 23 May 1985; and one great-grandson August Burnham, born 25 January 2014. Velma and Marlowe lived the first six years in Dangerfield, TX where Marlowe worked at Ordiance Aerophysics Laboratory. Velma and Marlowe moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1956. There, Velma worked at the telephone company for twenty years, and Marlowe worked at Sandia Laboratory for thirty-three years. In 1976, Velma began preparing Sunday lunch for the entire family, which entailed shopping for food, and cooking a meal, and this work, her hobby, continued for the next 37 years. Now, in year 2014, although Velma had already been treated for lung cancer with both chemotherapy and radiation, the terrible disease took hold and eventually her recent struggle ended Tuesday, 12 August 2014.   • BACA, ELOISA B. Age 84, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2014. She is survived by her children, Ruben D. Baca, Arlene Baca-O'Hara, Carl L. Baca and fiancee, Eloisa Taylor, and Michelle Ledford and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Julianna, Courtney, Ashley, Melissa, Christina, Deanna, Tamara, Jensen, Sabrina, and Jake; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Lydia Vigil and husband, Delfinio; and her aunt, Premia Quiroz. Mrs. Baca was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael V. Baca; daughter, Dolores Baca-Barton and her granddaughter, Victoria O'Hara. Eloisa was born and raised in Grants, NM and enjoyed visiting the family ranch in Cubero, NM. She was a wonderful cook. Eloisa enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. She was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, August 16, 2014, 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix NE. Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
