NAZZARETT, LORETTA MARIE Beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend Loretta Marie Nazzarett, passed away on April 7, 2013, at the age of 57. A life-long resident of Albuquerque and a proud New Mexican, Loretta graduated from Del Norte High School before attending and graduating from the University of Albuquerque with two BS in criminal justice/general studies and achieving a MBA from the University of New Mexico in Public Administration, the first member of her family to do so. Aside from working for the public defender's office, the campaign committee for Gov. Tony Anaya, in Santa Fe, NM as a legislative analyst she was an entrepreneur. Two of her companies, Tours of Enchantment and House of Luminaria visited and exhibited the many wonders of this beautiful state that she enjoyed immensely. Few things gave her more pleasure than having the wind in her hair either by horseback riding, a pair of water skis, or her collection of 1960's era British convertible sports cars but sharing time with her dogs (Buddy Boy, Max-A-Million, and Ebony) was definitely up there. Most of all, however, she loved being in the company of her daughter, Baby Cakes, and her son, Vido Corazon, who were her most treasured possessions. Many will miss her free and creative spirit, including those who were lucky to share a seat next to her at her favorite slot machine or poker table. She is survived by her daughter and son, Deanna Marie and Daniel Arthur, her father, Arturo Reynaldo Torres, her brother and sisters, Cathy Jourdan, Michael Torres, Elizabeth Pohl, Dawna Torres and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She joins her much-loved mother, Gloria Torres. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 6:30pm at Sandia Casino Eagle Room. MORRISON, RUTH AILEEN Age 85, a native New Mexican, and longtime resident of Albuquerque, currently residing in Pennington, Texas with her daughter and son-in-law, passed triumphantly and joyously through Heaven's gate Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She was reunited with her parents, Rev. L.M. and Gladys Walker; parents-in-law, John Calvin and Mildred Morrison; her only son, Richard Alan Morrison and her beloved and devoted husband of 60 years, William Eugene Morrison. She is survived by her brother and wife, Rev. Larry and Carmen Walker of Dallas, Texas; her only daughter, Cathy Jean Bonner; son-in-law, Arthur Lee Bonner and three grandchildren, Waylon Gene Bonner, Arthur Wayne Bonner, and Cheyenne Jean Bonner of Pennington, Texas; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and countless friends. Ruth was born in Des Moines, New Mexico on June 14, 1927. She later moved as a toddler with her mother and father to Ft. Worth, Texas where they attended Southwestern Theological Seminary. After her parents graduated they moved to Lewisville, Texas where her father was pastor at The First Baptist Church until she was in the fourth grade. There she played for hours on the grass between their home and the church singing "Jesus Loves Me" under a big shade tree. She was in several community musicals there as they always had an annual show, and she also told the story of Jonah during a story telling event. They then made a move back home to New Mexico where her father was pastor in Las Vegas, New Mexico for the next three years. They lived upstairs over the back of the church that had an outside staircase. They prepared their meals on a small stove that burned coal, and this is where she began to learn to cook. At school they played "cops and robbers," hop scotch, jacks, and paper dolls which she made out of old cardboard pieces, furniture made out of old match boxes, and at times pasted catalog pictures of dolls and people on cardboard to cut out. They didn't have much money, but they had lots of fun and enjoyed their friends at church and in the community. At times when money was not plentiful, members of the church would bring her family eggs, chickens, milk, bread and cheese. She loved her parents dearly and loved living in New Mexico. She enjoyed visiting their cousins in the summer and naming all of the cows on their farm. When Ruth entered the eighth grade, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where her father was pastor at The Fruit Avenue Baptist Church. At their home Ruth was a witness for countless weddings, and would sing as her mother played the piano for couples that her father married in their home. As a family they loved music and would sing around the piano. She had many memories of playing table games in their home together, and her favorites were Chinese Checkers and Monopoly. She attended Albuquerque High School and graduated in 1944. She then went to work for the Baptist Convention Office downtown. She also sang in the choir at Fruit Avenue Baptist Church, which was how she met the love of her life. He spotted her in the choir and told everyone he was going to marry her, and at eighteen years of age, her father performed her wedding in their home to William Eugene Morrison on February 3, 1946. After working to help put Gene through The University of New Mexico, she stayed at home to raise their daughter and son. They were members of Hoffmantown Baptist Church for many years where they served beside so many lifelong friends. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, Training Union, Vacation Bible School, and loved singing in the choir. She later went to work for the Albuquerque Public Schools and retired as an elementary school secretary. She loved working with young children and was loved by them as well. She so loved and adored her husband, Gene with all of her heart. Through all of the twists and turns of life they continued faithful to one another. Even after the death of their only son one month prior to his twelfth birthday, they continued living for Jesus and loving and trusting Him to sustain them in every way. She is remembered by many as the most gentle, kind, and Christ-like woman you could ever meet. She spent her entire life serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and serving others around her. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, and was treasured by her friends. She will be greatly missed by so many, but oh so missed most of all by her daughter and family who she lived with since 2003 in Texas. She enjoyed living on their cattle ranch where she spent each and every day keeping track of the baby calves. She spent time with her horses, dogs, cats, and loved on them all. She was such an inspiration to those around her, and you couldn't help but love her smile, brilliant blue eyes, and sweet disposition. A Visitation will take place Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Her Funeral service will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. HAMPTON, MARION LUTHER WAS BORN MAY 25, 1920, PASSED AWAY APRIL 6, 2013. he was born to Jerry Hampton and Hattie Glover Hampton, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, May 25, 1920. Sometime later they moved to Cleveland Ohio, where he spent his childhood. By age seven, he'd lost his older brother to a congenital heart disorder and his beloved mother to pneumonia. The rest of his childhood consisted of excelling in sports and academics, and assisting his grieving father with the care of four younger siblings, Jerry Jr., Cleoufus, Hollis, and John Hampton. By age 17, he became an orphan upon the death of his father. His younger siblings were placed into foster care, but he was now homeless, staying with friends, doing odd jobs until he graduated High School. During this time, he played the Trombone in various bands to support himself, and provide treats for his siblings. He would take them treats every weekend, and they would eagerly watch to see him coming up the hill to see them. It was war time, and he enlisted in the Navy, and was one of the first African American enlistees to be sent directly to the Naval Academy. He graduated first of his class with the rank of Quarter Master and would be responsible for navigation of the various ships he sailed on. Years later while on leave he met a beautiful young woman named Jean Dolores DeVega. They married and their union was blessed with four children, Joan Olivia Hampton- Brown, Philip Marion Hampton, June Joyce Hampton-White and Jean Dolores Hampton-Trujillo (aka) Dolores. Cori Thomas was added to our family when he was two years old. As husband and father, Marion worked tirelessly to provide for his large beautiful family, but times were very hard. When his third child June was born he was actually out of work. Soon he would use his great oratory skills to convince a NYC Transportation Board to allow him to use his Ohio Military Credit in New York State. By the conclusion of his dissertation, the complete board was in tears and he had procured a new good paying job as a subway conductor. His work ethic, and educational quest, allowed him many avenues of work, such as landscaping the homes in a new development they moved into in the late 50's. He sold vitamins, shrubs, comic books, and magazines, to augment his income. He learned accounting, and built that into a thriving business, while simultaneously working in NYC Corrections as an Officer. Due to his impeccable accounting skills, he spent the last few years in Corrections revamping their business and accounting departments, saving the department tens of thousands of dollars that were previously poorly managed and misspent. By the time he retired in 1975, ready to relocate to beautiful New Mexico, most of the children were married and out of the house, except for Dolores and Cori. They moved to Bosque Farms, NM and their other grown children followed, so by 1983 their family was once again all together. What followed were many blessed, bountiful years where many babies were born to join the family. Their retirement into their golden years were good, and he loved to recount tales of when his kids were little, or war stories, and the sadness of losing his sister ship. What a glorious wealth of knowledge, in a kind, fair and good man. The role model for many, he was loved by family and friends, and treasured for his wit, and humor. Marion became ill in December 2012 and passed away surrounded by loved ones this past Saturday, April 6, 2013. He was preceded by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean. He leaves behind the five fore mentioned children, Joan, Spouse Edward Brown, Philip, Spouse Carla Hampton, June, Spouse Ron White, Dolores, Spouse John Trujillo, and Cori, Spouse Mary, deceased, and their children. Marion leaves behind loving grandchildren, Janine Blake, Robbie Lamar Blake, Sean Blake, Spouse Stacy, Nichole Hampton Bell, Spouse Andrew, Philip "Rusty" Hampton, Spouse Loretta, Wentworth Renford Morris III, Spouse Patricia, Ellie Natalene Morris-Harvey, Spouse Larry, Mario Paul St John, Clifton White, James White Jr., Lena White, Candace White, Jasmine White, Dominic Trujillo, Kris, Bah Whee Trujillo-Spottedwolf, Spouse Calvin, Yuri Trujillo, and Dmitri Trujillo; his great-grand's, Antoine Morris, Avrey Freeman, Lamar Mitchel, Kyle Blake, Diondre Blake, Vivica Bell, Marcus Bell, Sidney Hampton, Madeline Hampton, Dominic Trujillo, Delilah Trujillo, Isabella Spottedwolf, Jaydon Morris, Dante Williams, Malia St John, Xavier St. John, Amiah St John, Lavont White, Sean White; and great-great-grand's, Latavious Morris, Rashay Morris, Rashad Morris. He also leaves behind his loving brother John Harold Hampton. CROUSE, HARRY DEAN Went to be with his Lord, February 27, 2013. He was born March 2, 1935, in Hopeton, OK to Ivan G. Crouse and the former Margaret E. Beck. After college, Chicago was his home for many years. Dean and his wife moved to New Mexico in 1981. They have lived in Albuquerque, Angel Fire, and Sandia Park. He is survived by his wife, Billie Jo; daughter, Denise Crouse and husband, Jody Vanesky and granddaughter, Nora Vanesky of Neenah WI; Diane Crouse and granddaughter, Kirsten Andersen of Albuquerque; grandson, Paul James Crouse of Neenah WI; sister, Estella Gahala-Lange and husband, Dale; nieces, Lisa and Tambralyn and nephew, Keith and five grandnieces, many surrogate grandchildren/great-grandchildren in Hawaii and the mainland. Dean's son, Paul Dean Crouse, preceded him in death. A loyal graduate of Oklahoma University, he responded to its Red and White colors with 'BOOMER SOONER!" He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in San Antonio, TX. An active Methodist, he lovingly served the church and its people. Also active in the GOP, he was unwavering when he came upon "baseless" opposition to his views. Dean supported many philanthropic organizations, including Animal Humane New Mexico, Albuquerque Community Foundation, and St. Jude. Dean and his wife established Acacia Counseling and Human Services. For several years, he was part of the KOB program "Family Talk." In addition, to working in private practice, Dean was also a counselor and girls' assistant softball coach in Albuquerque Public Schools; Eldorado, West Mesa, Rio Grande, and Cibola. Among his pleasures were reading history and biography, singing, playing the guitar, composing music, watching and participating in sports, especially baseball and skiing. He was bright, insightful, and analytical. While he didn't talk a lot, he could stop a conversation with a brief comment or facial expression. Global travel highlighted his retirement. Dean sang with the New Mexichords Barbershop Chorus for many years, sharing his love of music with many others. During his residence in Chicago, Dean played guitar and sang with a trio called SUMMERSUN. The group performed in numerous venues around the Chicago area and northwest Indiana. Dean LOVED DonGato the cat and Sapphire the dog, but assured Billie that he loved her more. A Memorial Celebration for Dean Crouse will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 4th and Lead SW on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. (Please contact Billie if you will attend.) A portion of Dean's ashes will be entombed at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
