MORGAN, EUGENE &Quot;GENE&Quot; R. 1941-2013 Eugene R. Morgan, SMSGT USAF (ret.), age 71, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 12. He was a charter member of the Los Lunas Rotary Club, a member of the Blue Max Aviation Society Albuquerque, International Airport and A.O.P.A. Gene was born on September 21, 1941 in Utica, NY. He spent many years training, or on missions at the following: Big Bear Community College, Moses Lake, Washington; Community College of the Air Force, NCO Academy; Flight Engineer on Sikorsky HH-53 and HH-3 Helicopters; 1550th Kirtland AFB 1976-1982, Albuquerque, NM; Hill AFB, Ogden, UT; Francis E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY; Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX; Larson AFB, Moses Lake, WA; Bent waters, Royal Air Force Base, England; Woodbridge England and lived in Ipswich England 1970-1974; 1975-1976 Assigned to the US Navy for search and rescue missions at Keflavik, Iceland; 1966-1967 Vietnam War Veteran, Air Rescue Det 14 39th Air Rescue stationed ? N?ng Saigon South Vietnam Nakhon Phanom, Udorn, Thailand; flew missions in M? Gi? Pass, North Vietnam, Vientiane, Laos and Cambodia; and flew missions in Malta, Cypress, Italy, Greenland, Norway, Crete, Morocco, Gibraltar and Spain. He retired after 20 years of honorable service, in which time he received the following medals: Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Readiness Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. His FAA Licenses were: Single, Multi-engine, instrument, air frame and power plant mechanic, Inspection Authorization. At one time he was a FAA Designated mechanic examiner who issued licensees to new mechanics. He also was part of the charter board for the aviation program curriculum at Central New Mexico Community College. Gene was the owner of Morgan Aviation in Midvalley Airpark, Los Lunas for over 30 years. His business was his love, and his passion for his aviation was where he restored, bought, sold, painted, and repaired general aviation aircraft. He was an avid deer and elk hunter and had many years of wonderful stories he would share. He had a passion for NFL Football and avid Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants fan. He made friends wherever he went, and is survived by countless friends and acquaintances throughout the aviation community and the world. He was preceded in death by Emerson Morgan Sr. and Beatrice Sheets Morgan; sisters, Janet Well and Nancy Nichol; and daughter, Michelle Cordero. SILECCHIO, THERESA Age 90, a longtime resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, April 14, 2013. She was born on February 28, 1923 to Salvatore and Frances (Piccolo) Umana in Chicago, IL and moved to Brooklyn, NY at the age of two. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend who loved shopping, dining at restaurants, and spending time with her family and friends. She lovingly volunteered at St. Joseph's Westside Hospital along with her best friend, Maria DeLeo, from 2001-2003. Her sense of humor is legendary and will be greatly missed. She, also loved living at The Fairwinds and enjoyed the friends she made, as well as the gracious staff and the amenities that The Fairwinds has to offer. LLAMAS, RAMON D. age 84, a resident of Albuquerque, was born December 30, 1928 in El Grullo, Jalisco, Mexico, passed away on April 13, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Llamas is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Romy Trujillo Llamas; children, Rudy Llamas and wife, Ruth, Ruben Llamas and wife, Dale, Ramon Llamas, Jr., Patricia Llamas, Vivian Llamas-Green and husband, John, Anthony Llamas and wife, Melissa, Priscilla Llamas-McKaughn and husband, Jeff, Sylvia Llamas-Gallegos and husband, Paul, Julie Llamas and boyfriend, Luis Arriaga, Leroy Llamas and wife, Lee Ann, Steven Llamas and fiancee, Jessica Garcia; sister, Ester Montes and husband, Luis; brother, Miguel Llamas and wife, Maria; twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and two on the way; one great-great-grandchild one on the way; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Previously he worked along side his good friend Eloy Serna at Cocina de Carlos and later at Eloy's Mexican Restaurant. Ramon was quick to make friends and everyone called him "Compa." He always made you feel welcome and wanted to hear how your family was doing. Mr. Llamas was preceded in death by his grandsons, Steven Llamas Jr. and Fernando Llamas. HALL, DEAN P. Dean, age 91, passed away April 12, 2013. Dean was born July 1, 1921, in Plainfield, NJ, to Chester and Nell Hall. Dean is survived by his wife, Jean H. Hall; a son, Richard; a daughter Carol; step daughters, Susan, Marta and Myra; and a stepson, Chuck. A baby-faced Dean Hall was drafted into the Army at the age of 21 and was assigned to the Army Air Force as a B-17 Flying Fortress top turret gunner/1st Engineer. He was assigned to a B-17 named "Herky Jerky" and went on to complete 25 bombing missions over France, Norway and Germany. Dean was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and was credited with shooting down a German ME-109 fighter during one of the missions. After his stint as a B-17 crewman he returned to the states to serve as an aerial gunnery instructor. After he was released by the Army he worked for Mack trucks until January 1949. Dean missed the fun, travel and adventure of the military and in 1949 he applied for an Army commission and was appointed as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Transportation Corps. His first assignment was in Guam and then Japan as a member of the 558th Amphibious Truck Company. The 558th moved on to Korea and was in North Korea when the Korean War broke out; the 558th's ducks traveled the length and breadth of Korea. Dean returned to Ft. Story, VA in November 1951. In 1954 he was sent to France and was promoted to Captain. In 1955 a reduction in force occurred and Dean accepted a reduction in rank to Sergeant First Class in the regular Army. Dean became the 1st Sergeant of Company A, 10th Ordnance Battalion, Fort Bliss, TX. The 10th was a nuclear weapons support company and Dean was sent to Sandia Base, NM for technical training. From Sandia Base Dean was sent to Killeen Base, TX, this time as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 Nuclear Weapons Technician. Dean continued to serve as a Chief Warrant Officer Nuclear Technician at Presidio of San Francisco (3 times); 23rd Ordnance Company/43rd Ordnance Group in West Germany; 50th Ordnance Co at Ft Carson, CO; 32nd Army Air Defense Command in Germany; the Office of the Inspector General, Korea and the Office of the Inspector General, United States Army Europe in Germany. Dean retired from the Army in 1975 as a CW4. From 1975 till 1989 Dean worked for the United States Automobile Association (USAA) in San Antonio, TX and Tampa, FL. He retired from USAA in 1989 after 13 years with the firm. Dean and Jean moved to Rio Rancho, NM in 1993. This was now a time of leisure and Dean was finally able to devote some real attention to the love of his life, Jean. While square dancing was a favorite pastime of theirs world travel now took precedence. In all they have traveled to 94 countries to include India, Australia, a cruise around South America, etc. Dean's military career was archived at the Library of Congress under the Veterans History Program. Dean and Jean had not forgotten their military roots and they enjoyed attending Eight Air Force Historical Society luncheons. Dean was a member of the 95th Bomb Group (H) Memorials Foundation, the Air Force Gunners Association and The Distinguished Flying Cross Society. They both attended nuclear weapon warrant officer reunions and enjoyed the renewing of old friendships. Dean and Jean had many old friends and continued to keep in contact over the years. GALLEGOS, MEDARDO &Quot;MARTY&Quot; JR. Age 70, a life-long resident of Albuquerque passed away Friday, April 12th, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Yvonne Gallegos; daughter Yvette Gallegos of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Paul Gallegos and wife Sunny of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Tiffany and Michael Gallegos of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Evan and Eden Gallegos of Houston, Texas; sisters and brothers, Chris Hastings, Ruth Gonzales and husband Benny, Cora Chavez and husband Jimmy, Raymond Gallegos and wife Ramona, Dolores Ponce and husband Raymond, Lawrence Gallegos and wife Margaret, Martin Gallegos and wife Connie; brother-in-Law Phillip Herrera and wife Lydia; and sister-in-law Sylvia Barnish of Alameda, California. Medardo, called "Marty" by friends, enjoyed mariachi music and spending time with his family both at home and around Albuquerque. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Lobos. He looked forward to everyday at his job of 30 years as the South area mail man for Albuquerque Public Schools, where everyone called him "Mel". Marty will be remembered for his humor and his simple lifestyle of looking out for others. He truly touched many lives in a positive and joyful way and will be missed by many. CROWELL, GEORGE WILSON (aka GEORGE WILSON), age 83, passed away of congestive heart failure at his Albuquerque home on April 10, 2013, peacefully surrounded by family. George was born in Katonah, New York on June 18, 1929. After a brief career playing in the Philadelphia Phillies baseball system, he began a legendary, award-winning, coast-to-coast radio career that spanned five decades, more widely recognized by his 'air-name', George Wilson. Rising from disc jockey to program director, he won two awards as National Program Director of the Year for his creative success at Bartell Broadcasting in the 1970's, and then as President of Bartell was honored as Radio Executive of the Year. George will be remembered locally for his 1992-1997 radio show on KIVA, and for Memory Tunes, the Internet radio station he founded in 2009. George is survived (at last count) by his nine children; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his loving wife Jackie. George will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was a man who changed the world, one person at a time. Memorial Services, to be held at California's Santa Anita Park, are not yet scheduled.
ARAGON, MARY LOUISE a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 12, 2013. She was born on April 7, 1928 in La Junta, Colorado. She was preceded by her parents Manuel and Catalina Gonzales, her husband I. E. "Sonny" Aragon Jr. and son Andrew Aragon. She is survived by her son Ignacio E. "Nash" Aragon and wife Linda, her son Baron Aragon, a daughter Lydia Aragon and her son Rudy Aragon and his girlfriend Debbie Chavez. She has grandchildren Abel Aragon, Richard L. WHISENHUNT, JUANITA LEE RODEN Age 80, born on October 9, 1932, in Wichita Falls, Texas, a resident of Albuquerque since 1980, died peacefully Saturday, April 13, 2013 after a prolonged illness. She is survived by her children, William Werner and wife, Renee of Brownwood Lake, Texas, Terri Swift and husband, David Rios of Albuquerque, Karen Otero of Albuquerque, Michael Werner of Gilbert, Arizona, Harold Dean Whisenhunt, Jr., of Albuquerque, and John Whisenhunt and wife, Paula of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; brother, Ralph Roden, Jr., and wife, Tammy of Fort Worth, Texas; and sister, Elsa Schneider and husband, Robert, of Lenexa, Kansas. VELEZ, THELMA LEAH Age 80, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away at her home on April 12, 2013, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son, Mark Garrett and wife Kim of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, and Kaitlyn Garrett of Albuquerque; her brothers, Johnny Johnson and wife Nancy of Phoenix, AZ, Phillip Johnson of Albuquerque, Gary Johnson and wife Gloria of Albuquerque; many nieces and nephews living throughout the country. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Velez; and her beloved dog, Charlie. Thelma was a true native of Albuquerque. She was born on February 27, 1933 to her Navajo father John Bahe Johnson, and Acoma mother Josephine Hunt. She kept close ties to family in Acoma Pueblo, Santa Ana Pueblo, and Indian Wells, AZ. As a child she participated in many traditional ceremonies and parades. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, class of 1950. She was a dedicated civil servant with 36 years of service to the US Army, DOD DASA, US Air Force, with a majority of her career working as a senior investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. SIMMS, ROSE MARIE Age 94, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born April 16, 1918 to Peter V. and Gertrude M. Archibeck, died April 14, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett E. Simms; son, Greg E. Simms; parents, Peter and Gertrude Archibeck; siblings, Lena Mickiewicz, Sadie Graham, Conrad Archibeck, Pete Archibeck and Herman Archibeck. Rose is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Ron) Carman, Barbara (Steve) Carlson, Diana (David) Malcolm; sons, Kenneth (Charlene) Simms, Doug Simms; brother, Ron Archibeck; 14 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren. A graduate of Albuquerque High in 1937. Rose worked in the Bernalillo County Treasurer's Office and later retired from Dillard's. Besides being a great mom to her large family. Rose delighted others with her quick wit and the grace she had for everyone. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 20, 2013, 1:00 PM at New Life City Church 4830 Pan American Fwy. SIERRA, LORETTA a beloved mother, grandmother and sister, age 79, passed away on April 14, 2013. She was preceded by her parents Elauterio and Elisa Padilla, brothers Luther and Fernandez Padilla. She is survived by daughter Gloria and Ernest; Joyce and Phillip; Michelle and Michael; son John and Vicky; sisters Rebecca Lopez, Mable Martinez and husband Albino; Pasty Gabaldon and husband Gilbert; sister-in-law Helen Padilla; grand children Valerie and Karla; Robert; Joey and Deanna; John Jr.; Ashley and Jason; Amanda; Joshua and Gavin; great-grandchildren Samyra, Diego, Estrella, Santiago, Carlos and Lillyana. Loved by all including nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She will be dearly missed! Services are scheduled for Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11:00am at Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW, ABQ, NM 87105.
