SHERMAN, RICHARD HINSDALE died peacefully at home on September 17th. Born in Ithaca, NY to parents James Morgan Sherman and Katherine Keiper, he studied history at Cornell and Oberlin colleges, and continued with post-graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin. Thereafter he worked as a broadcaster in the Midwest, a stockbroker in New York City and Albuquerque, and in retirement as a substitute teacher in Albuquerque's public school system. His love of travel took him to sixty countries around the world and led him to Chile where he met the love of his life, Elba, who precedes him in death. He is survived by his daughter Carmen of Vienna, VA; son Morgan of Morro Bay, CA; and brother Thomas of Charlottesville, VA. He was a gentle-hearted intellectual with a great capacity for knowledge who was passionate about the world economy, diverse cultures and people, spanish literature, sports and chess. In Albuquerque he became a fixture of New Mexico chess culture, presiding over the Coronado Chess Club for twenty years, and organizing for even longer. He will be sorely missed. A small memorial service will be held at a future date in Vienna, VA, where he spent his final two years living happily with his daughter, son-in-law Serge, and grandsons. In lieu of flowers we ask people to make a donation in Richard's name to the Learner's Chess Academy of New Mexico where the funds will help low income children from throughout the state to learn and play the game of chess.

RAMIREZ, MARIA ESLINDA (IRENE) In Loving Memory September 24, 2011 Two years ago today! God embraced and took you home. It broke my heart to lose you even though I knew I would. God saw you suffering and prepared a place in Heaven with the angels so you could rest. In life I loved you dearly, in death I do the same. They say time heals all wounds, but I don't believe that's true. For no amount of time could ever heal the wound of losing you! A true broken heart is really never healed. Always missed. Always remembered. And forever loved. Your husband, Albert Roberta, Marlene, Albert Jr., Grandkids and Great-grandkids

PRUITT, DWAYNE In Loving Memory 9/21/44 - 9/24/12 I do not need a special day To bring you to my mind, The days I do not think of you Are very hard to find. Each morning when I awake, I know that you are gone. And no one knows the heartache As I try to carry on. My heart still aches with sadness And secret tears still flow. What it's meant to lose you No one will ever know. My thoughts are always with you, Your place no one can fill. In life I loved you dearly; In death I love you still. There will always be heartache, And often a silent tear. But always a precious memory Of the days when you were here. If tears would make a staircase, And heartaches make a lane, I'd walk the path to heaven And bring you home again. I hold you close with in my heart And there you will remain, To walk with me throughout my life Until we meet again. Our family chain is broken now, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. We love and miss you, Sandy, Carrie, Akasha & Kyrin

FISHER, WAYNE ERNEST Wayne Ernest Fisher, who wrote this remembrance of his life, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at the age of 95. He was born to Lillie and Frank Fisher on a farm near Ludell, Kansas on July 28, 1918. In 1925 the family moved from the farm three miles south of Ludell into town to live in the old Smith Hotel which belonged to Lillie. He attended grade school in Ludell for six years and in 7-8th grade he walked to a one room school south of Ludell. In March 1931 a blizzard came up suddenly and trapped the school children and the teacher in the school for three days. Frank and Lillie had no idea if Wayne had made it to school or not that day. After three days, word was sent to Frank and Lillie that Wayne was safe at a neighbor's house with the teacher. Wayne graduated from 8th grade in 1932 and went on to attend Atwood High School. After graduating from high school in 1936, Wayne worked odd jobs on the farm until the fall of 1939 when he left for Fort Hays Kansas State College in Hays, Kansas. He had $100.00 in his pocket and a job as a dishwasher when he got there. He later worked in the carpentry shop on campus. During his senior year at Hays and afterward, he taught pre-flight military students math, physics and civil air regulations. After graduation from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1943, he continued to teach at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was eventually drafted into the Army and was assigned to the Manhattan Engineering District at Los Alamos, New Mexico, during the construction of the atomic bomb. He was discharged from the service in 1946 but remained with the atomic energy program until he retired in 1978. While in Hays, Wayne met Helene Wurm in 1940 when she came to Hays for school. Helene married Wayne May 28, 1944, at her family farm in Oberlin, Kansas. She preceded him in death December 24, 2008. Wayne is survived by his three children; Ruth (husband Eldon Epley), Eugene (wife Elaine) and Roger (wife Debbi).
