MARTINEZ, MARCELLO J. Age 88, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, November 24, 2013. Marcello is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carmen Martinez of Alb; children, Clifford Martinez, Larry Martinez and wife, Consuelo and Viola Martinez-Cano; five grandchildren, Ramon and wife, Vallie, Jacobo and wife, Jennifer, Luis and fiance, Caroline, Mercedes, and Lexus; four great-grandchildren, Mariana, Ramoncito, Skye, Eva, and Olivia; two sisters, Mary Jane Quintana and Anna Belle Collatz; along with many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobo and Frieda Martinez; brother, Willie Martinez; and sister, Delfina Manzanares. He served our country during World War II in the United States Army in the European Theatre. Marcello was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 641, American Legion Post #99, and VFW in San Luis, CO. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, November 27, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW, followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. KOSTOLICH, MARCUS W. 1952-2013 Marcus W. Kostolich, age 61, a resident of Rio Communities, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 23. He graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in criminology and journalism. He was a Psychiatric Technician at UNM Children's Psychiatric Hospital. He loved to read and was very intelligent and kind hearted. Marcus served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret Medic. He was big hearted for anyone who was down and rescued many stray dogs and cats. Marcus is survived by his beloved wife, Dorian B. Kostolich; and their many loving animals. Services will be private. FIGGE, ROGER DEANE Roger D. Figge, 78, passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2013 following a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's. Roger was born August 14, 1935 in Aurora, Illinois. His family moved to Albuquerque in 1942 and he attended University Heights Elementary School and Jefferson Junior High. He was a member of the first freshman class when the new Highland High School opened in 1949, graduating in 1953 in the school's first four-year class. He went on to get both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History & Education from the University of New Mexico and was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa education honorary. He started a very successful career teaching World History at Valley High School. In 1961, Roger married Barbara Anthes, a fellow history teacher at Highland High, and returned to his beloved alma mater when Barbara left teaching in 1963 to raise their family. He continued team teaching with his brother, Robert, at Highland before retiring in 1991 after 30 years of teaching. Together, "The Figge Brothers" brought history alive to generations of students, being voted Senior Class Teacher of the Year many times. He sponsored two student tours to Europe to continue to bring history alive, and sponsored one of Japanese students to Albuquerque. Their tests became known as "Figge Biggies," and together they leave quite a legacy at Highland. The History Building was dedicated to Roger and Robert in 1990 and was renamed "Figge Hall". A new Figge Hall now stands at the east end of the HHS campus. Roger loved sports and cheered the Chicago Cubs with eternal optimism and played in a City senior softball league for many years following retirement. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Barbara, and by his parents, Frank and Bertha Figge. He is survived by his daughter Debra Owen, her husband, Todd and their son, Kyle; his son Steven, his wife Deborrah and their children, Marlena, Jacob and Dylan; and his brother Robert. The family extends deep and heartfelt thanks to the team of loving, caring and dedicated caregivers who made the last three years of his life so much easier. ESTRADA, MELKY WILLIE Born February 17, 1940, Mr. Estrada passed away on November 21, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances Estrada; children: William (Grace), Charlie (Cindy), Patrick (Geraldine), Jimmy (Lucia), Steven, Cathy (Terry), and Becky; brother, Raymond (Nancy); sisters: Rita (Ray), and Theresa (Ozzie); 19 grandchildren; and 25 great- grandchildren. In his younger years, he loved to play baseball. He loved music and played numerous instruments. Melky worked very hard as a contractor all his life. He was loved by all his family and friends and knew someone everywhere he went. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. She also loved cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Salas; parents, Ramon and Martita Gabaldon; grandson, Jeff Salas; in-laws, Fermin and Maria Louisa Salas; six sisters; and three brothers. NIVER, MARGIE age 81, went to be with our Lord on November 22, 2013. Margie was born in Afton, TX on February 5, 1932 and later moving to Carlsbad, NM and finally to Albuquerque, NM several years ago. She was preceded in death by husband, Ward Niver. She is survived by daughters Pana Trujillo and Donna Zaffer; son Steve Zaffer; brother Roger Wolford; sisters Marie Gist, Evelyn Culpepper, Clara Amark and Alma Singer; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private memorial service on Sunday, December 1, 2013. The family would like to thank all all of Margie's caregivers in particular those of Hospice de la Luz.

MAGRUDER, NORMA F. Age 90, born in Monte Vista, CO and a resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully Saturday , November 23, 2013 surrounded by family. She is survived by her son, David C. Magruder and wife Janie of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Amy Daehnert and husband Todd of Fairview, TX, Kendall Magruder and wife Ali of Albuquerque; great grandchildren, Blake, Hannah and Kane and many other family and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Harold E. Magruder, whom, for 16 years, she devotedly cared for. She was also preceded by her parents Cecil J. and Lovie Phillips and her siblings, Glen, Wendell and Dorothy. She worked for PNM until retirement and was a member of the Forerunners. She was a longtime active member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She spent many years enjoying travel with friends and family. Our "On the Go Granny" is at her final destination using her "good legs" to dance with Jesus. HAYO, GEORGE EDWARD Age 79 years old, died peacefully at Mercy Medical Center in Durango Colorado on November 23, 2013. George was born on November 2, 1934 in Los Angeles, California to George and Esther Hayo. He was the oldest of two brothers - brother Philip Hayo still lives with his spouse, Georgina, in California. Married for 56 years to his loving wife Nixie (pre-deceased), he is survived by his three children, Michael, Kenneth (Desiree) and Michelle. His extended family also includes six grandchildren, Celeste (pre-deceased), Conor, Edward & Michael Hayo and Hank & Nolan Stowers. George graduated from San Diego High School, California Polytechnic Institute (Bachelor's Degree) & Denver University (Master's Degree). After marrying his wife, Nixie, they raised their three children over the years in California, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and New York while he held jobs with several large firms. George was a very successful businessman which included teaching numerous seminars on manufacturing to over 10,000 attendees as well as writing many articles for several magazines. He eventually opened his own management consulting firm, Hayo Consultants, in New York and ran that for 20 years before retiring to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 1990's and finally to Durango, Colorado for the past several years. George had a zest for living and was active throughout his life. He spent a lot of time traveling the world while enlisted in the Navy as well as with his job and vacationing with his wife & family. He was an avid skin diver, loved to play golf, enjoyed sailing, ran many marathons including 4 in one year, was a good card player and was also a master gardener in his later years. He easily made friends, loved to tell jokes and made whomever he came in contact with a better person for having met or known him. The family will be holding a private service and very much appreciate all of the kind thoughts and stories shared by those who knew George. He lived a wonderful and enriched life.

HAGE, MARK HENRY 1942-2013 Mark Henry Hage, 71, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away at home with his family by his side on Sunday, November 24, 2013. He was born on September 17, 1942, in Aurora, Illinois, to Edward and Marion (Kell) Hage. Mark grew up on his family's farm outside of Yorkville, Illinois. He attended Cross Lutheran School and Yorkville High School before graduating in 1960. After graduation, Mark was an Army reservist, farmer, field representative for a dairy cooperative, and, finally, a farrier (horseshoer). In 1968, he married his wife, Wanda Lee Smith. Initially, they lived in Springfield, Illinois, later moving to Clayton and Trafalgar, Indiana. In 1987, he and his family moved to Los Lunas, New Mexico, a place he called home for the next 26 years. Mark's passion was horses. In addition to his day-to-day work with horses, he and Wanda raised many high quality European sport horses over the years. Such work required learning about equine bloodlines, working with young horses, and periodically travelling to Europe to visit German state-sponsored breeding programs, all things that he thoroughly enjoyed. Mark was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel on Friday, November, 29, 2013, and 2:00 PM. Immanuel Lutheran Church is located at 300 Gold Avenue SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Joel. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda; his son, Jarod; and numerous loving family members. DRUMMOND, STEPHEN E. Stephen E. Drummond, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 23, 2013, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on January 15, 1931, in Spelter, West Virginia, to the late General Shafter and Ruby Drummond, he was one of four boys. Steve graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg, WV and he married Natalie Dodd, his childhood sweetheart, who was born on the same day and preceded him in death in 2009. They were married for 58 wonderful years and raised two children, who with their families cherish his memory: daughter Ricki and her husband Mike of Tijeras, NM; granddaughter Tara and her husband John Garr, and great-grandsons Jackson and Stephen of Colleyville, TX; son Jeff and his wife Sharon Drummond, and grandsons Joshua, Andrew, and David of Pickerington, OH. Steve is also survived by his wife Ann, his "Yellow Rose of Texas," with whom he cherished the last two years of his life; & family in the Clarksburg, WV area: brother Shafter "Brud" and wife Caron; sister-in-law Matilda Drummond; sister-in-law Jill and her husband Bud Vernon; brother-in-law Rocky and his wife Kathy Dodd; brother-in-law Jody Dodd; and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his brothers Bob and Gene Drummond. Steve was a proud Marine, serving in the Korean War (POW), and earning the Purple Heart. He received the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal from South Korea in 2003. After the war, Steve went to college on the G.I. Bill, earning a Bachelor's Degree from Fairmont State University and a Master's Degree from Miami University of Ohio. Steve enjoyed a career in education for over twenty years, and positively affected the lives of many children, teachers, and parents. He first worked as a teacher and coach in Gettysburg, OH; served as principal in Amesville, OH; then moved to Groveport, OH, for the remainder of his career. Steve was the principal of Asbury Elementary (his favorite job), and then became the assistant superintendent in charge of personnel. After retirement, Steve enjoyed traveling to sunnier places, "making memories" with his granddaughter and grandsons, and creating and selling his craft invention, Tara-Lite, for which he received a design patent. Steve and Natalie lived for a few years in Orlando, FL, where they loved visiting EPCOT, before settling in Albuquerque in 1995. Steve was a founding resident of Paloma Landing and a friend to all. His persistence through challenges and adversity and his positive and caring attitude reflected the core values of his Christian beliefs-faith, hope, and love. A memorial service will be held in Albuquerque on Saturday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo de Norte Boulevard N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87122.
