MALOY, THOMAS C. Thomas Carl Maloy, age 86, of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1964, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 18, 2013. He was surrounded by, and in the comfort of his family. Tom is survived by his six children and 13 grandchildren, daughter, Gayle Maloy, sons, Mike Maloy and wife, Becky (Robyn and Marshall), TJ Maloy and wife, Sheri (Aaron and Shawn), (Dion) Pat Maloy and wife, Mary Beth (Kelly, Katelyn, Lindsey), Toby Maloy and wife, Elizabeth (Kristine, Megan, Summer, Mitchell) and daughter, Molly (Caleb and Seth), and great-grandchildren, Colton and Liam; by his nephew, Donald Maloy; and by his dearly loved friend Ester. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Maloy; his parents, Arthur H. and Augusta (Torp) Maloy; his brother, Don Maloy; and his cousins, Betty Isaeff and Alma Robinson. Tom was born in San Francisco on July 2, 1927 to Arthur H. Maloy and Augusta Torp Maloy. He was Irish on his father's side and a second generation American from Denmark on his mother's side. Tom grew up in Lindsay, California where he excelled in track and field, and was active in his 4-H Club. At 17, in 1944 Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his service he went to college on the G.I. Bill, where he earned his degree in Industrial Arts, and later a Master's in Education from Fresno State University. While teaching high school Industrial Arts in Tulare, CA, Tom met his future wife, Paula Longacre, who was teaching Home Economics at the same school. They were married in Fresno, CA on April 10, 1952. Their first child was born in 1953. The following year, they answered a newspaper ad seeking young married couples to teach school for the Alaska Native Service. In August of 1954, Tom, Paula, and baby Gayle arrived by bush plane in the Eskimo village of Kipnuk, Alaska where they were greeted by the entire village of about 150 residents. They were the only teachers. Tom was the Principal, the village postmaster and both Tom and Paula staffed the village clinic. They enthusiastically embraced Native life and culture, and when Tom killed his first seal, a traditional celebration was held by the village as they did for every young man after his first successful hunt. The family later moved to the small Eskimo village of Chevak, Alaska where Tom and Paula were again the only two teachers. During these early adventurous and memorable years in Alaska, four sons, Mike, TJ, Pat, and Toby were born, and many lifelong friendships were made. Although they eventually moved "Outside," Tom and Paula frequently traveled back to Alaska visiting family and friends. After Tom earned his Master's Degree, he was selected for a special training group that served under Secretary of the Interior Stewart Udall. It was during the family's time in Washington D.C. that President John Kennedy was assassinated and the family took the opportunity to be present at the ceremonies involving the President's funeral procession and viewing of the casket at the Capitol building. Tom then began his career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs which brought the family to Albuquerque, New Mexico in August 1964. Their last child, daughter Molly was born the next year. Tom was in charge of purchasing and installation of equipment for B.I.A. schools and dormitories across the country, including Alaska. Tom traveled frequently and enjoyed occasionally driving the 18-wheel tractor-trailers to the construction sites. Tom was with the B.I.A. for 32 years until his retirement. Tom loved country-western dancing and enjoyed bowling, golfing, his membership in the Elks Club, welding metal art, and was a nationally ranked Senior Olympian in long jump, running. javelin, shot-put, discus, and pole vault. He participated in his last Olympics at age 85. Tom enjoyed his life and never missed an opportunity to go to a Lobo game, a dinner out, a ride around town, a party, a hunting trip (where he searched for and collected old bones of animals). Neighbors remember the familiar sight of Tom sitting on his front porch, enjoying an early evening glass of wine and visiting with the neighbors. Dad was fun to be with and entertained us with his costumes and jokes and comforted us with his soothing voice and manner and good advice. He was the anchor of our family and of the neighborhood who will be deeply missed the rest of our lives. We will raise a toast to him with his favorites, Tullamore Dew and Galliano. STEWARD, RYAN MATTHEW Ryan Steward, age 21, died December 19, 2013 at his Albuquerque home following a life-long illness. He received his angel wings while in the loving arms of his mother, comforted by his father, brother, sister-in-law and his faithful companion dog, Duke, who was a gift to Ryan from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ryan is survived by his father and mother, Brad and Lori Steward; his brother and his brother's wife, Michael and Katelynn Steward of Albuquerque; grandparents, Jim and Shirley Steward of Albuquerque and Donald Heise of Westminster, California; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ila Heise of Westminster, California. With Ryan's passing we are reminded that life is a precious and fragile gift and should be celebrated each day. Although he will be missed terribly everyday, especially his bright eyes and beautiful smile, he will be forever in our hearts. For Ryan, the smallest gains were a triumph, and although Ryan never had sight and could never walk or talk, he positively impacted our family and many others who witnessed the strength and courage he exhibited as he faced exceptional challenges every day of his life. As we grieve the loss of our precious Ryan, we are comforted by our faith and the knowledge that he is now free from pain and suffering and in the loving arms of Christ. As a family we are grateful to the many caring medical professionals who have provided care and support to Ryan throughout his life. We are especially thankful for Ryan's long-time loving home nurses, Nettie and Bonnie. We have also been blessed by the UNMH Mariposa Pediatric Hospice Team, in particular, Cynthia, who provided compassionate care to Ryan and our family in the last part of Ryan's life. SMITH, JEAN CAROL On December 22, 2013, Jean entered into eternal rest with her Lord Jesus. She was born June 1, 1924 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania to George Frazier Gray and Mazie English Gray. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Jean McBee; and son, Lawrence Eugene Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 68 years, Lyle Eugene Smith. Jean was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church where in the late 1980's she served in lay ministry as a Stephen's Minister. Jean graduated from Hunter High School in New York City in 1943 and continued her education at night in Hunter College while working for Banker's Trust. She came West in 1945 and married Lyle Smith on December 20, 1945. She was a wonderful mother and a faithful wife. MUSGRAVE, HOMER STEFFEN Homer S. Musgrave, age 93, long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, December 19th. He is survived by his son, John Musgrave and wife, Barbara of Los Alamos, NM; daughter, Caroline McClurg and husband, Jon of Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Laura, Karen and Maria Musgrave and Audrey and Michael McClurg. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Catharine (Kate) Musgrave and his daughter, Suzanne Louise. Homer was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1920, the son of John Knox Musgrave and Elizabeth Steffen Musgrave. He spent his childhood in the suburb of Mount Lebanon, PA. Homer won a scholarship from the local Harvard Alumni Club, so was educated at Harvard College, graduating in 1942 with a degree in History. While at Harvard, he was chosen for the Grant Study, one of the longest running and most comprehensive longitudinal studies ever conducted. He went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, from which he received a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1945. While in Philadelphia, he met Catharine Mawhinney and they were married in 1946. From 1946-50, he served his country in the Army Medical Corps, first at Fort Dix, then at other postings. He continued his training at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, MA, where he trained under Dr. Frank Lahey. Homer and Kate moved to Albuquerque in 1950, where he practiced medicine as an anesthesiologist (the third in the state) until retirement in 1983. Homer was very active in the Albuquerque community, supporting many civic and cultural institutions, including serving on several boards. He was the founder of the New Mexico Society of Anesthesiologists, and served on the boards of the Friends of the University of New Mexico Libraries, Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, and the Albuquerque Historical Society. It is difficult to find anything that Homer wasn't interested in, but his greatest loves were history, travel, music and books. As a teenager in 1936, Homer bicycled around Germany with his older brother and future sister-in-law. The many family vacations always included stops with historical interest. And, he almost always took music into the operating room with him. Homer was a great optimist and always had faith in his fellow humans to do right by one another. His optimism carried over into his general demeanor and a nurse was once heard telling someone visiting the hospital that they could find Dr. Musgrave by walking down the hall, turning right, and he is the doctor with a big smile. MEEK, HARRY L. Age 68, a resident of Rio Rancho, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013. MARTINEZ, DANIEL PATRICK Loving son, brother, uncle and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the age of 40. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Daniel adored his family and loved spending time with them. He was an active member of Ascension Church; enjoyed watching football, a true fan of the Dallas Cowboys; playing baseball and was a painter. He was preceded in death by his grandma Agnes Carrillo. LAUER, ROBERTA Age 86, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since April 1992, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born on September 16, 1927 to Lester V. and Anne G. DAVIS, JACK W. Jack Wayne Davis passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque on December 21, 2013 at age 81. He was born on January 2, 1932 in Huntsville, AR, and grew up in Harrison, AR. He attended Harding College is Searcy, AR where he met and then wed Frances Smith in 1954. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 12, 2014. After graduating from Harding College with a degree in chemistry, Jack taught High School mathematics for a short time at St. Joe, AR before joining the Air Force as a Drill Instructor. Jack's Air Force career spanned 23 years and focused in education and training, with assignments at San Antonio, TX; Kirknewton, Scotland; Ogden, UT; Little Rock, AR; Seoul, South Korea; then in 1972 at Kirtland Air Force Base, where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1977. Making Albuquerque his home, retired Msgt. Davis' second career spanned 25 years as an Insurance Agent and computer specialist for the Equitable/AXA Insurance Company. Jack loved to play boogie-woogie piano and jazz standards, he was a talented black and white film and digital photographer, a formidable tennis opponent and avid runner. He was an Arkansas Razorback fanatic and a loving husband, father, grandfather and pet owner. Jack is survived by his wife Fran, sister Velma Cuellar of San Antonio, TX, his daughter Michele Del Valle and son-in-law John Del Valle of Santa Fe, NM; son Stuart Davis and daughter-in-law Dolores Pena-Davis, and granddaughter Amanda Davis, all of Fullerton, CA, and several nieces and nephews. CHAVEZ, DELFINO HILARIO Delifino H. Chavez, age 86, passed away peacefully at his ranch in Golden, New Mexico on Friday, December 20, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents Delfino and Pauline Chavez, his former wife Viola Chavez and his brother Carlos Chavez. Delfino is survived by his wife Karen; brother Sigfredo Chavez and wife Carmen; children Max and wife Beth, Olga, David and wife Teresa. Dennis and wife Pauline, Pauline, Viola, John and wife Mary Lou, step-children Kelly Reese and husband, Shawn Reese and wife Vivian, and Patrick Reese and wife Carol. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Delfino "Del" was born in Albuquerque and after being orphaned with his two brothers at an early age, spent his adolescent years in Ribera, New Mexico with his Aunt Luicita. At the age of 16, he moved to Arizona with his reunited family and picked cotton to help the family make ends meet. Soon after that he set out on his own and lived in Los Angeles. There he worked in a fruit stand at the Market Place while trying to support himself and his two younger brothers. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and proudly served in the Pacific between 1946 and 1950. While stationed in China he learned Chinese by communicating with the local Chinese dock workers and prided himself on understanding their plight. He loved singing while strumming his guitar, especially sharing a song learned when he was stationed in China. His ability to pick up languages was remarkable especially since he learned them as a means to communicate with those around him. He prided himself on Navajo, San Felipe, Spanish and English - without formal education. Delfino was a well-known member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 412, where he received his 55 year membership pin after working in the industry as a plumber - pipefitter. His passion in life was ranching and farming. He spent his retirement years at his beloved ranch near Golden, New Mexico. We will miss him dearly. AGATS, HELEN P. Age 93, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away. YONEMOTO, MASAMI SAM Age 90, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born May 19, 1923 in Glendale, AZ. Masami is survived by his wife, Masaye Yonemoto; son, Darrell Yonemoto and wife April; daughter, Betty Sachiko Umi and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Othiamba Umi, Kamaria Umi, Natalie Yonemoto; sister, Tazue Akutaguwa. He grew up in Glendale, AZ in a family of farming pioneers and attended high school in Grants, NM. Since 1948 Masami had been a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM. For 40 years he owned and operated his own business Yonemoto's Nursery since the late 1950's. Once Masami retired for his nursery he enjoyed to play golf. WIMMER, GEORGIE RAE Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend, Georgie Rae passed away on December 26th after a long illness. She was born on December 19, 1937, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to Norval "Cotton" and Josephine Houston. Georgie was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edwin Wimmer, who loved and adored her. She is survived by her sister Wanda Hill and brother Ronald Houston; her children, Ken (Kathy) Wimmer, Scott (Sheley) Wimmer, and Cathy Wimmer; grandchildren Samantha (Patrick) Sanchez, Nycole (Dustin) White, and Chelsea, Geoffrey and Connor Sweet; and great-grandchildren Andy and Alex Sanchez and Rylee White. TRUJILLO, WILLIAM JOHN Age 77, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in Rio Rancho, NM. He was born in Springer, NM on November 24, 1936. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Marie Trujillo. Williams is survived by his sons, William John Trujillo, Jr. and wife Anna, of Albuquerque, NM, Michael A.
