MAES, MARY LOUISE Mary Louise Maes was born in Palo Alto, California in 1937 to Charles and Olive Shambaugh, but grew up in New Mexico. She earned a Master of Arts in Education from the University of New Mexico in 1975. A consummate teacher, Louise brought a passion and creativity to her classroom that earned her several awards and distinctions. Besides being an educator, she was also an accomplished artist. Her love of the beauty of New Mexico was reflected in her landscape paintings and earned her merit in exhibitions, such as Annual Master Works of New Mexico. Louise's greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. Mom/ Gramma will be missed by her friends and her family, which include sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Chic Gaddis; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Chuck Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Jennifer Geer; daughter and son-in-law, Darby and Wesley Karchut; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Robin Geer; grandson, Joshua Austin; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Ashley and Brian Kelemen; and granddaughter, Roshelle Geer.
