ROMERO, TEOFILO On Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 Teofilo Romero (Teo), passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline; brothers, Paul and Freddie; and sisters, Francis Sarnicola and Gloria Austin. Teo leaves behind two daughters, Bernice Benjamin and Lucy Romero; son Julian Romero; and son-in-law Keith Benjamin. He has eight grandchildren, Teofilo Romero Jr., Julian Romero Jr., Chelsea Romero, Wanda Light, Cassandra Okamoto, Trever Benjamin, Justina Delgado and Andrew Delgado. Teo also has seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews still residing in Albuquerque. Teo was a long time member of the OTAP (Organ Transplant Awareness Program) in addition to serving as its' President for a year, a Transplant Games participant and the recipient of two kidney transplants himself. He was very active in teaching and educating others about the importance of being an organ donor, spending hours at local schools educating Albuquerque's youth on the value of organ donation. His tissue, bone marrow, skin and cells were donated immediately after his passing. Teo was also active in his community as a member of the Mossman Neighborhood Association, helping to positively impact his neighborhood and its residents through examination of local issues. Teo was a long time self-employed business owner, growing up in Albuquerque before moving to California to work in the sign business. He and his wife Pauline returned to New Mexico in 1991 and have resided in the NE Heights ever since. Teo will be missed by all of those that loved him dearly. Private services were held this week for immediate family.
