CHAVEZ, BENNY P. age 95, born April 8, 1918 passed away on December 18, 2013. Mr. Chavez is survived by his daughters, Petra Castro and Rosanne Haber and husband, John; sons, Frank Chavez and wife, Cristela and Phillip Chavez and wife, Dolores; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; and granddaughter, Rebecca. Mr. Chavez was owner of the Royal Shoe Shop on Third Street for many years and drove a school bus part-time, while his wife managed the shop. In the early 80's he lost his sight to glacoma, drastically changing their lives since Mrs. Chavez never learned to drive. He remained in good health until Mom passed away after sixty-five years of marriage and was cared for at home by his family and special friend who called him Dad, Ruben Jaramillo. As he required more care he was at Princeton Place facility where he received outstanding care and the family wants to thank the caregivers and staff. Mr. Chavez was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 24, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW. Committal Service will follow the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be Fernando Baca, Kevin Burgess, Frankie Chavez, Phillip Chavez, Manuel Montoya and Andres Beltran.
