DUMAS, RICHARD Age 84, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013. He is survived by his partner, Edith Tarbescu, of Albuquerque; a nephew, William Meek, of Chicago; and numerous friends around the country. He grew up in Chicago and attended Dubuque University, in Iowa, where he attained a degree in chemistry. As an officer in the Navy, he was stationed in Japan and the Philippines during the Korean conflict. After leaving the Navy, he worked in San Francisco and later moved to Houston where he sold construction material to architects. An avid skier, tennis player, hiker, and motorcycle enthusiast, Richard lost his ability to enjoy the outdoors due to a rare blood disease, MDS. He was challenged by the disease but fought valiantly to the end. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Donations in his name can be sent to the MDS Foundation.
