PIERSON, DOROTHY D. age 76, died December 17, 2013 in Albuquerque, following a brief illness. She was born in Missouri, the daughter of schoolteachers and earned degrees from the University of Missouri and the University of New Mexico. She taught high school in St. Louis and later in Albuquerque for many years, teaching at St. Pius X High School and in the Albuquerque Public Schools. Following her retirement from teaching, she was the office manager for the Ethics Program at the UNM School of Medicine. She continued to teach and mentor others long after her retirement. Dorothy loved her family, her friends, and her pets. She enjoyed music, languages and travel, and was a longtime member of the University Chorus at UNM. Dorothy is survived by her children Kathryn Gordon (Bill), Steve Johnson (Pam) and Eric Johnson (Cortney); grandchildren Kelsey, Kate, Melissa, Jon, Stephanie, Dylan and Jake; former husbands Dr. Robert Johnson and Hugh Pierson; brothers Wayne DeVilbiss (Barbara) and Loren DeVilbiss (Jean); nieces Diane and Holly; nephews Ron and Kerry; and many, many friends. She will be greatly missed by us all. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date.
