HERNDON, KENNETH LEE beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2013, and received a heavenly welcome from his beloved wife Patti. We will miss him but we find joy in knowing he has entered a new and perfect life with Christ. Ken was born on December 11, 1928 in Sedalia, Missouri to Joseph and Janie Herndon, and grew up there. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946 and met the love of his life, Patricia Lee Worster, at a dance in September 1949; they married on his 21st birthday that same year. Ken was chosen for Air Force Officer Candidate School in 1954, rising through the ranks before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in April 1975. Throughout Ken's Air Force career, they lived in different states and countries and had four daughters: Mary Bailey of Columbus OH, Barbara Wilcox of Corpus Christi TX, Melanie Christenson of San Antonio TX, and Holly Huddle of Albuquerque NM. During his retirement years, Ken found outlets for his varied talents but most enjoyed building and decorating dollhouses with Patti, attending garage sales, gardening, and reading westerns and mysteries. Active in church, Ken served as Senior Warden, and was a long-time member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew's. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Patti; survived by his daughters, Mary, Barbara, Melanie, and Holly and her husband Gary; as well as seven grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Mandy, Kelli, Ben, Ashley, and Patsi; eight great-grandchildren; brother Joseph and his wife Roma; sister-in-law Barbara; and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Eucharist celebrating his life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd, NE, Albuquerque NM 87112, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., with reception following.
