STUART, HOWARD M. Howard Myron Stuart, "Stu" of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2013. He was born on May 9, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha C. Holman and John Q. Stuart; brother, Gilbert Stuart; sister, Emily Elizabeth Rankin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Dee Stuart; daughters, Susan (Robert Padilla) Stuart, Sheri Fisher, Stephanie (Matthew) Davis; grandsons, Brandon Stuart, Jared Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful and devoted friend, Barbara Jones. Stu served in the United States Army, Air Force and National Guard. He retired from Sandia National Laboratory and served as an usher and steward at St. Johns United Methodist Church. RAMIREZ, VIRGINIA G. age 83, devoted mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2013 with her loving family at her side. She retired after 47 years of federal service. Virginia will always be known for her love of life, family and shopping. Virginia enjoyed reading her Kindle and crossword puzzles to keep her mind busy. "She lived until she died". Virginia is survived by her seven children Linda, Michael, Karen, David, Denise, Debbie and Richard; her many, many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great- grandchildren; and her beloved extended family. PORTILLOS, GLORIA MAXINE September 5, 1941 - December 12, 2013 age 72, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & sister, passed away at home on December 12, 2013 with her family at her side. Gloria was born the third of six children on September 5, 1941 in Springer, NM and was raised in Ocate, NM by her beloved grandparents Beatrice and Condrado Rivera. Gloria is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years Gilbert Portillos; their two children, Anthony Portillos, Matthew Portillos and his wife Stephanie along with their two children Matalena and Moises Portillos. Gloria was preceded in death by her father Ruben L. Vigil, and her mother Rosalie Schultz. She retired after 27 years with the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Gloria will always be known for her love of dancing, crocheting, traveling, cooking and baking. Gloria enjoyed passing the time reading, playing word games, and was an avid fan of all sports except golf. Gloria enjoyed making people laugh and always had a witty response. Gloria's one rule was to make sure no one left her home hungry. Gloria loved her family and showed it everyday. Gloria was a wonderful role model and will be missed daily. Services will be held Friday the 20th of December, 2013. Rosary at 8:00am followed by Mass at 9:00am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 4th and Alameda. HERRERA, PAUL (PY) Age 54, passed away Mon. Dec. 16. He was born Dec. 10, 1959 to Pablo and Olivia Herrera. Father, grandfather, brother and friend will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by both parents and brother-in-law George Garcia. Paul is survived by his son Chris and his wife Mallory; granddaughter Kristin; grandson Dristt; his sister Patricia Rivera & husband Paul; sister Isabel; brother Tom; brother Rich and fiancee Hope; nieces Sara, Maggie and Tammy; nephews Sean, Will, Matty, Julian; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. PY loved his family and especially his grand babies. He had a passionate love for golf and he cherished his time with friends out on the golf course on Saturdays. HARRISON, PETER D'ARCY Died Sunday, December 15. He was born September 19, 1937 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Leonard Harrison and Winnifred Mary Crook. He received his BA and MA from the University of Toronto and his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Peter worked as an archaeologist at the Maya site of Tikal in Guatemala for many years. He also taught at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario from 1966-76. In New Mexico he was a Senior Research Associate at the Maxwell Museum, and at the time of death was the director of the Tikal Project West. Peter is survived by wife of 47 years Alexandra; son Andreas (Leia) of Willowbrook, Illinois; sisters Susan Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Milko; niece, nephew, and numerous first cousins. Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at a later date.

GONZALES, JOE S. Age 89, a longtime resident of the Rio Rancho and Corrales area passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. He was born on October 28, 1924 to Ricardo and Bersabe Gonzales of Puerto de Luna, NM. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry and general handy-man duties. His greatest joy was helping the elderly by driving them to their appointments and to the senior center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie Gonzales; and son, Paul Gonzales. GERDING, BOB Age 75, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet Loken Gerding; his sons, Patrick R. Gerding and wife Stephanie of Seattle, WA, Michael W. Gerding of Denver, CO; brother, Richard L. Gerding and wife Eileen of Farmington, NM; his stepsister, Millie McMahon and husband John of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Flint Morris; granddaughters, Madeline Gerding, Melanie Morris; grandson JT Morris and wife Kristi; great-granddaughter, Laurel Morris; nieces and nephews, Chris and David Gerding, Bett Clark, Mollie and Jack McMahon and Deena, Dan, Doug and Don Bryce; many other family and friends. Mr. Gerding was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Claribel Gerding, his step mother Millie Gerding, his daughter Laura Gerding Morris and his sister Clarilou Bryce. He was a graduate of Highland High School and the University of New Mexico, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was elected to the Anderson School of Management Hall of Fame. Bob was a member of the Episcopal Church and owner and operator of Bob Gerding's Ourdoor Adventures. His proudest achievement was as the creator of the Bob Gerding's Outdoor Adventures Hunting and Fishing Show, which ran for 15 years. He was also the author of two books on fly fishing and fly tying. Bob was actively involved in several charitable fly fishing events, was the voice of fly fishing on radio and TV and was the host of TV's Wild New Mexico. He loved the New Mexico outdoors especially the Jemez Mountains. He also thoroughly enjoyed college basketball. March Madness was his favorite time of year. The family would like to express a special thanks to Chris Gerding, Bett Clark, Presbyterian Hospice and Home Instead for their wonderful care. DENISON, MARY JANE &Quot;JASON&Quot; Age 90, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013. She was born in Denver, CO on March 11, 1923, to Francis James Farley and O'Nita Elizabeth (Hamer) Farley who precede her in death. Jason has been a resident of New Mexico since 1944. She was an employee of Sandia National Labs for 16 years and also worked at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and St. Charles Catholic Church, where she played the organ for many years. Jason performed with the Albuquerque Little Theater and she was an accomplished musician and singer. Jason along with her husband belonged to the Sandia Labs Travel Club. She was an avid competitive bridge player. Jason was her husband's copilot as they traveled in their plane all over the continent. She was also his navigator during road races throughout the country. Jason is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, William "Bill" J. Denison; children William J. "Bill" Denison and wife Donna, Mary Dee Denison and David F. Denison and wife Barbara; grandchildren Zachary A. Fogleman, Kelly G. DAVIS, ROY H. Age 93, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Roy was born in La Jara, CO in 1920. He lived there as a young man and met and married Jean Peterson from nearby Sanford, CO. They were married June of 1939 in Albuquerque. Roy worked in Albuquerque as a carpenter until WWII. At that time, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was attached to the 40th Battalion of Seabees. He served the next four years in the South Pacific and was involved in military action on the islands of Los Negros, New Hebrides, New Guinea, Saipan, and Okinawa. He received a Presidential Citation and was awarded three battle stars for combat. At the end of the war, Roy was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class and returned to southern Colorado where he was a building contractor. In 1956, Roy went to work as an insurance adjustor for General Adjustment Bureau and again relocated to Albuquerque. He was employed with GAB until his retirement in 1985. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jean; his two sons, Howard Davis and wife, Janeane of Roseville, CA and Walter Davis and wife, Gloria of Bear Creek, CO. Roy has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - Eubank Chapel, 4109 Eubank Blvd. NE. WORKMAN, THEODORE EDWARD Theodore Workman, our beloved husband, father, & grandfather, slipped the surly bonds of earth and entered his heavenly home on December 15, 2013. He was loved deeply and will be dearly missed. Ted was an adventurous spirit who lived his life with integrity and grace, setting an inspiring example for his family and friends. Ted was born on April 29, 1932 in Oxford, Michigan. Ted was the first in his family to attend college, and he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming. Ted honorably served his country as a fighter pilot in the Air Force for more than 27 years. His career afforded him the chance to visit 30 countries. Highlights from his service include a world record-setting transatlantic flight, selection as a test pilot, and numerous awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ted met the love of his life, Jane Ann Rosson, during flight training in Victoria, Texas. They married on August 29, 1957 and were married for over 56 years. Their family is an ever-growing clan affectionately known as "Workman's Wingmen". Ted was an avid supporter of all of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their performances and sporting events. Ted enjoyed playing the trombone from his days in the University of Michigan Marching Band to time spent in various community orchestras. He believed strongly in helping others and volunteered many years for Presbyterian Hospital, the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. He also shared his expertise as a volunteer tax preparer and as a coach for the Junior Olympic Shooting Team. Ted was preceded in death by his father and mother; Edward Workman and Doris Geisler. Ted is survived by his wife Jane; son Thad; son Mark and wife Dawn; daughter Wendy Jones and husband Brad; and grandchildren Garrett, Zachary, Alexandra, Taylor, Lauren, Tanner, Theo, Meghan, Kennady, Campbell and Brady. He also leaves behind his loyal canine companion, Honey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choice. VANDER PUTTEN, DORIS ELIZABETH Age 81, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013. She was born April 19, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Frederick and Elizabeth Zwirz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Vander Putten. Before retiring to Rio Rancho in 1994, Doris and Bob called San Francisco and San Jose, CA home for 41 years. Doris quickly began building her career in regional community theater in San Francisco starting with The Lamplighters. Vowing to one day play a lead role on stage, she continued her quest in 1967, after moving to San Jose, joining the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of San Jose (Lyric Theatre), appearing frequently in the lead contralto roles. She shared other memorable performances with West Valley Light Opera, Saratoga Drama Group (South Bay Musical Theatre), Sunnyvale Players and West Bay Opera, solidifying her reputation as a premier musical/dramatic actress. Doris' off-stage work was spent mostly in the area of customer service representative for several businesses in the bay area, the last of these with Shea Homes. Upon her arrival in New Mexico, Doris jumped right into volunteer work at Lovelace Westside, eventually becoming the smiling "Queen of the Welcome Center," logging over 4000 volunteer hrs. She always managed to work in a story or two about her beloved partners at the Welcome desk. She loved working there!! She was equally proud of her participation in the choirs of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Doris leaves behind her adoring children: Barbara Vander Putten (Trish Sliter), Laurie Loken (Paul), Martha Moss (Jeff) and Robert as well as her three beautiful grand-daughters, Stephanie, Andrea and Barbara Marie. A Visitation will be held Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 2400 Southern Blvd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: American Diabetes Association.
