Obituary for SOSA

SOSA, DANIEL &Quot;HENRY&Quot; Our beloved Brother, Uncle, and Great Uncle passed on to be with his devoted mother, Valentina, father Alfonso-a military man, brother Frank, and sister Alpha Quill. He was 71 years old. He was born in Albuquerque (Barelas) and grew-up in the North Valley where the family lived at the time. The family was originally from Mora, New Mexico. He attended Valley High School where he excelled in sports. He held the record (ten years) in football for longest run back for a touch down from scrimmage. He excelled in track, wrestling, and baseball, and also was a Golden Gloves fighter. After high school he joined the New Mexico Air National Guard and then enlisted into the US Army during the Vietnam-era where he became 100% disabled and was treated by the Albuquerque VA Medical Center for most of his life. He passed away at the VA Medical Center. Employees of the VA took very good care of his medical needs and were there for him during most of his life. He lived independently. Our Mother and he were very close and took care of one another. Our mother and former Governor Apodaca (his former coach at Valley High School), were instrumental in acquiring his military disability. Everyone he met he befriended. He was especially close to Teddy, his pet dog. During the last three years, his caregivers were Dianne Miller and Julia Serna. He was the fourth eldest and is survived by his oldest brother Dr Luis Roberto, PhD, (wife, Marsha, deceased, former wives, Dolores and Doris) and significant other, Virginia, brother, Tom and wife Isabela, brother John and wife Iris, (former wife, Marcella Rubi) brother, Ernie and wife Julia (former wife, Connie). His eldest sister, Roberta (husband, Elmer Tixier, deceased, former husband, Jose Gutierrez), and his sister, Teresa and husband Steve Johnson, and an adopted niece, Rebecca and husband, Billy Ek. Salazar Chapel at Salazar Mortuary; followed by Life Celebration Service at 10:00 a.m. Committal Service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be Susana Sosa, Christopher Sosa, Dorothy Sosa, Valery Romero, Gregory Gonzales and Chelsea Warner. SANCHEZ, ROBERT JOE Age 66, a longtime resident of Los Lunas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 7, 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa M. Cavalier and husband, Jesse; son, James Sanchez and wife, Miriam; father, Camilio Aragon Sanchez; brothers, Raymond Sanchez and wife, Carol, Dennis Sanchez and wife, Cathy, Steve Sanchez and wife, Magdalene; sister, Jennie Garcia and husband, Greg; brother, Chris Sanchez and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren Alex, Makayla, Madilynn and Diego. RICH, GEORGE DOLLIVER George Dolliver Rich, of Albuquerque, passed away December 6th, peacefully at home and surrounded by his family. He was born October 28, 1948 in Pampa, Texas to G.D. "Johnny" and Tonetta "Toni" Rich. He was raised in Lovington, New Mexico, and after college, he settled in Albuquerque. George was devoted to his family as a loving spouse, cherished father, devoted grandfather, selfless brother, and caring uncle. He was fiercely loyal to his wonderful friends. He was a successful business owner in real estate and construction for many years. George was an avid golfer and fisherman, and he loved to play cards. He passes on a legacy of empathy, compassion, thoughtfulness, generosity, hard work, and strong values. He will be missed tremendously. He is survived by his former wife, Shirley; daughters, Charlotte (Charlesly) Joseph and Sarah (Wesley) Rich-Jackson; grandchildren, Oliver, Emery, and Ashleigh Rich-Jackson and Alexander Joseph of Albuquerque and brother, Chris Rich and family of Denver. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Rich. PADILLA, FIDEL E. Age 100, of Abo, NM peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, December 9, 2013. Mr. Padilla was born September 18, 1913 in La Joya, NM to Eulalio and Beneranda Padilla. He was a life-time resident of Abo, NM and a member of San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Abo. He retired from the Santa Fe Rail Road. Mr. Padilla was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patrocinia, who died February 22, 1952; daughter Marcella Padilla; grandchildren Florence and Mikey Padilla; and three brothers Eliseo, Elfido and Ernesto Padilla. He is survived by his sons Eulalio Padilla and wife Delia of Abo, NM, Pete Padilla and wife Margaret of Albuquerque, NM, Ralph Padilla and wife Dora of Albuquerque, NM, Henry Padilla Sr. of Belen, NM and Pat Padilla Sr. of Mountainair, NM; sisters Leonor Flores, Antonia Sisneros, Lilly Flores, Aurelia Sisneros; 19 grandchildren; 43 great- grandchildren, and nine great-great- grandchildren. There will be a Rosary & Mass on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair, NM with Fr. Sotero Sena officiating. MONTOYA, DINAH ROSE Age 57, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her mother Loyola Montoya. HURST, RAYMOND JOSEPH Feb. 28, 1923 - Dec. 4, 2013 Ray Hurst had a smile, a story and wisdom from the Bible to share with everyone he met. An accomplished pianist, Ray played professionally and also piloted a B-17 for the Army Air Corp in the 1940s, missing his first combat assignment to England by just a week when Germany surrendered. But Ray's primary concern in life was preaching from God's Word. He became a full-time minister in the late 1950s with his wife, Mary Ann. In 1969, Ray began serving as a Circuit Overseer for Jehovah's Witnesses in North Dakota, followed by similar assignments in several states throughout the country, including New Mexico. The couple retired from the traveling work in Albuquerque, settling into the Sierra Vista Congregation. Ray was preceded in death by his son David James, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, their grandson Eric and great-grandson Seth. A memorial service is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6509 Signal Ave. NE.

HOLTZMAN, MILDRED MAYBERY Mildred Maybery Holtzman of Atlanta, age 91, passed away December 5, 2013. Mildred was born in Quebeck, Tennessee on May 31, 1922, one of three daughters and nine sons of the late James Worthington Maybery and Minnie Ethel Sparkman Maybery. After receiving her RN in 1945, she served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. She was stationed at Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where she met and married her husband of 62 years, Dr. Saul Charles Holtzman, who preceded her in death in September 2009. They had four daughters. Mildred was a homemaker most of her life and primarily resided in Boston, Massachusetts; St. Petersburg Beach, Florida; and Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2008 to be close to family. She also spent two tours, one in Frankfort, Germany and one in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1974-1982, when her husband returned to active duty with the U.S. Army. She and her husband traveled all over the world, mainly after her husband's retirement when they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1984. Mildred was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Holtzman and husband, Richard Rubinson of Dunwoody, Georgia, grandchildren, Max Rubinson, Emily Rubinson, Claude Rubinson, and Paul Rubinson and wife, Kristin Hay, and great-granddaughters, Harper Rubinson and Camille Rubinson; her daughter, Karen Holtzman of Coconut Creek, Florida; her daughter Kimberly Holtzman of Sherman Oaks, California; and her daughter, Sara Page and husband, Robert Page of Cornwall, United Kingdom. Funeral services are being held Thursday, December 12, 2013, at 12:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia where she will be buried with full military honors. She spent many years working alongside her husband on their cattle ranch where they also spent many hours fishing. Mimi loved to read novels. Mrs. Harrison is survived by her children, Maria Earls, Paul W. Harrison, Martha A. Lawhorn and husband, John, Henry J. Harrison and wife, Wanda; brothers, Paul Moya and wife, Barbara and Frank Moya; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Amber, Tracy, Alex, Shannon, Adam and wife, Monica, Wendy, Jon and wife, Laura; eight great-grandchildren; many other extended family and friends. Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William M. Harrison; parents, Pedro and Dora Moya; sisters, Maria, Josephine (Fita), and Alvina; brothers, Pete and Manuel. Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Margaret was dedicated to her family and her beloved, Jesus Christ. She worked and volunteered her time at Holy Rosary, maintaining the altar, decorating it, always with beautiful flowers. Margaret's smile and sense of humor will missed by all who knew her. She loved working in her yard, growing flowers, she had a green thumb. She also enjoyed her pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Europe. Visitation was Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, a Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Final Visitation will be Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul W. Harrison, Henry J. Harrison, Adam Harrison, Jon Harrison, Carlos Ruiz and Dylan Harrison. Honorary pallbearer will be James Harrison.
